Charles Burton Dunn

Charles Burton Dunn, 57, of Birmingham, died Thursday, September 29, 2005, in a Birmingham hospital. Graveside services will be held in New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph S. Knight officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Morrison Dunn; his son, Charles Burton Dunn, Jr.; his sister, Dale Dunn Alosi (Jim); his niece, Allison Alosi and nephew, Philip Alosi.

Pallbearers are Everette Albrecht, George W. Andrews, Will Booker, John H. Burton, O.L. &8220;Pete&8221; Johnson, Thomas S. Johnson, William B. Johnson, J. Parke Keith and J. Mark White.

He was born in Selma, the son of the late Ellen Burton Dunn and Charles Evans Dunn; he attended Selma public schools and graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in 1966.

He attended Auburn University where he was affiliated with Kappa Alpha social fraternity and he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970. He went on to graduate from Cumberland School of Law in 1973 having earned a Juris Doctor degree.

His distinguished legal career began as a Deputy District Attorney in the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office from 1973 until 1981. He entered into private practice in Birmingham and was a founding partner in the law firm of White, Dunn & Booker and remained with the firm until his retirement. He was an accomplished trial lawyer who was widely respected for his skill and integrity.

Burton was an impeccable host and loved entertaining family and friends. He loved to travel. Traveling to Jordan-Hare stadium to cheer on his beloved Auburn Tigers was a favorite destination. He was an avid student of history, particularly the Civil War and World War II eras. Burton also lent his time, talents and heart to the Boy Scouts of America. The family will receive friends at the Parish Hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Monday, October 3, 2005, at 9:30 a.m.

Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America and the American Heart Association.

Clint Nelson Wright

Clint Nelson Wright, age 81, of Selma, AL passed away September 29, 2005 at his residence.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 1, 2005, 10:00 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home with Tom McLemore officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Interment was in the Molett Family Cemetery in Orrville, AL.

Visitation was held Friday, September 30, 2005, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

He is survived by two daughters, Rozanne (Rickey) Kaldor of Selma, AL and Rebecca (Jim) Molett of Molett’s Bend, AL; one sister, Vestelle Aungst of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren, Angela (Frank) Landers, Tony (Delta) Phillips, Suzanne (Jeffery) Waites, Page (Jim) Ellis, Elizabeth (Mac) Howard, and James (Darlene) Molett, Jr.; 10 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Wright; son, Clint N. Wright, Jr.; brothers, Doyle T. Wright and Chester B. Wright and sister, Effie Mae Gandy.

Pallbearers were Tony Phillips, Rickey Kaldor, Jeffery Waites, Sr., John Martin Ellis,

James Molett, Jr., and Carl M. Howard II.

Honorary pallbearers were Wheeler Chance, Don Carter, Jimmy Smith, Joe D. Sanders, and Pep Parrish.

Arthur R. Newberry

Arthur R. Newberry, 51, of Selma, died Sunday, September 25, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services were held Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Isabella Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Dorothy Oxford Smith

Dorothy Oxford Smith, age 95, of Auburn, AL passed away September 28, 2005.

Mrs. Smith was formerly from Orrville, AL, Lucedale, MS and Montgomery, AL.

Graveside services will be Monday, October 3, 2005, 2:30 p.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL with Rev. John MacLaren officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be Monday, October 3, 2005, from 1- 2 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

She is survived by one son, A. Oxford (Phyllis) Smith of Lake Martin, AL; two daughters, Al Sandra &8220;Sandy&8221; (Malcolm) Freeman of Statham, Ga., and Annezell (Larry) Gafford of Lucedale, MS; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was an active member of Orrville Baptist Church where she worked with children and was an accompanist and teacher.

Patrick Caulfield

LONDON (AP) &045; Patrick Caulfield, an artist noted for his spare, precise studies of interiors and still life, died Thursday in London, according to the Waddington Gallery, which has represented the artist for more than 30 years. He was 69.

Caulfield came up in the 1960s generation of artists, and his bold images were often associated with Pop Art.

However, the catalogue for a 1999 exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in London said Caulfield’s work &8220;addresses the central concerns of European painting: how light falls, how space is organized, how to reconcile different ways of looking at things.&8221;

Caulfield told an interviewer in 1999 that his interest in interiors developed in art school as a reaction against social realism.
