Breakdown: Greene County travels to Plantersville looking for another regional victory. Over the first two weeks, the Tigers have been within eight-10 points of winning, falling to Clarke County (32-22) in week one and then to Jemison (28-20) in week two In week three they finally notched their first regional win, a victory over Southside and then continued their momentum with a week 4 victory over Greensboro. Last week Dallas County rallied and notched their first win of the season, a romp (48-8) through the defense of the Keith High School Bears. While the Hornets are 1-4 on the season, they are still looking for their first regional win. The Hornets fell at the hands of their 1A rivals, Maplesville to open the season. After having an impromptu open week thanks to Hurricane Katrina, the Hornets took the field fresh against Demopolis, but still came out on the short end.

Demopolis High School Tigers (5-0) @

Southside High School Panthers (2-3)

Coaches: Doug Goodwin | Christopher Raymond

Breakdown: The defending 4A state champions make the trip to Southside looking to extend their winning streak. This season, the Tigers have posted consecutive wins over Sumter County (38-0), Bibb County (28-6) and Dallas County. Demopolis is looking to add Southside to their list of defeated opponents. Southside lost to rival Selma High (20-0) to open their season and then allowed two costly turnovers stop their chance at a comeback against Greensboro (18-12). The Panthers were able to notch their first win in week three defeating Greene County (53-28) at home. The Panthers recorded their third loss of the season two weeks ago against regional foe Jemison on the road, but rebounded for a week five victory over Central High School at Hayneville.

Pickens County High School Tornadoes (4-1)

@ Keith High School Bears (1-4)

Breakdown: The Tornadoes have been one of the top teams in 2A during the season. The squad from Pickens County notched four straight victories over Carrollton, Hale County and Billingsley before ending the unbeaten streak of Calera. On week five, however, they got to see how the other half lived, falling 33-0 to Aliceville. Keith High School won one game last fall and so far this season, have only won one game. The same team was the victims two years in a row, R.C. Hatch High School. The Bears fell in weeks one, two and three to A.L. Johnson, Calera and Vincent before beating Hatch. The Bears were back to the losing side of things in week five, after being defeated by Dallas County.

Maplesville High School Red Devils (4-1) @ Saint Jude High School Pirates (1-4)

Breakdown: The Red Devils notched an early season win over Dallas County in week one, but fell in week two to Autaugaville. Hubbert’s squad bounced back in week three for a their first regional win of the season against Verbena and then their second regional win against Notasulga. The Red Devils stepped out of regional competition to face and defeat Calera on the road. The Pirates upset Reeltown in week four ending a three-week losing drought. However, they were back on the low side of the scoreboard in week five, losing to Zion Chapel at home.

Wilcox Central High School Jaguars (2-3) @ M.T. Blount High School Leopards

Breakdown: Wilcox Central fell victim to Hurricane Katrina in week two as well, having their game against B.C. Rain moved and eventually cancelled. The Jaguars lost in week one to the Poets of Sidney-Lanier High School. Wilcox suffered their second loss of the season in Camden against St. Paul’s Episcopal. The Jaguars finally found their first victory in week four against John Shaw High School.

They added another win to officially make it a streak last week, beating Greenville on Saturday.

Morgan Academy Senators (4-1) @ Hooper Christian Academy Colts (2-2)

Breakdown: The Morgan Academy Senators notched their first victory of the season over a downtrodden Lee-Scott squad (40-10), improving them to 1-1 after their opening week loss to Edgewood Academy (24-12). The Senators continued their winning ways by pitching a shutout against Glenwood (34-0) in week three. In week four the Senators secured a slot atop the regional standings with a victory over perennial foe, Faith Academy (21-13).

Kingwood Christian School Lions (5-0) @ Meadowview Christian School Trojans (4-1)

Breakdown:

Kingwood Christian enters Friday game with an unbeaten streak of five games. The Lions opened with a victory over Lee-Scott and haven’t looked back, leaving a wake of battered opponents. For four straight weeks, Kingwood has romped through Sparta, a injury-laden Cornerstone Christian, Abbevillle and most recently Jefferson Christian. Jeff Christian holds a victory over Meadowview.

The Trojans come into the game still stinging from last year’s 13-12 loss to Evangel. This year, the squad opened up with a win over Abbeville (14-0) but was upset in week two by Jefferson Christian (14-6). In week three, the Trojans &8220;protected their house,&8221; beating Evangel (25-6). In week five, the Trojans pulled out another close win, this time in overtime against Taylor Road Academy at Goodwyn Junior High in Montgomery. Friday’s game will have playoff implications for both programs. Friday night’s game will also serve as the Trojans’ homecoming night.

Central Christian Academy Warriors (2-3) @ Southern Academy Cougars (5-0)

Breakdown: Southern Academy is the team to beat in Class A. The Cougars are the defending state champions and appear to be on their way to a defense of that title. In five games, they have only given up 13 points – seven to MMI and six to Shelby. Southern opened up with a win over MMI in week one, knocked off Sumter in week two, Chambers in week three, Shelby in week four and then destroyed East Memorial in week five. Central Christian has had their hands full this season. The Warriors lost in week one to Calvary Christian, but rebounded with a win in the second week over East Memorial. They lost to Shelby, but rebounded with a win over Class AA’s Taylor Road. This past weekend, the Warriors lost at home to Sumter Academy. This could be a huge game for the Warriors. They also have an open week to look forward to in week seven.

West Alabama Preparatory School Titans (1-5) @ Marion Military Institute Cadets (0-5)

Coaches: John Santoro, III | Lamar Frith

Breakdown: West Alabama Prep, or WAP for short, has been a lesson in futility so far this season. The Titans have one win to their credit, a defeat of East Memorial, who the Cadets end their season with. So far West has lost to Marengo and Cornerstone in weeks one and two and then lost to Sumter and Class AA’s South Choctaw in weeks four and five. The Cadets have struggled this season in three of the four games they’ve played. Granted they opened their season with the defending Class A state champion Southern Academy and has had to face Shelby, Sumter and Cornerstone in consecutive weeks. Last week, they added another loss to their record, but not after nearly scoring the comeback win over Wilcox Academy.

Pickens Academy Pirates (2-3) @ Wilcox Academy (2-2)

Coaches: Lynn Wright | Chris Burford

Breakdown: The Pirates were swashbuckled in the first two weeks of the season, losing to Class AAA’s Bessemer Academy and then regional foe Clarke Prep in back-to-back weeks. Pickens rebounded in week three with an upset of Jackson Academy, but lost the next week to Patrician. In week five the Pirates strung together several offensive drives en route to a route of Marengo Academy. The Wildcats season has pretty much gone the opposite way. Wilcox opened the season with a narrow defeat of the Monroe Volunteers but suffered back-to-back regional losses to Tuscaloosa Academy and then to Clarke Prep. The Wildcats found their confidence, somewhat last Friday with a 34-22 defeat of Marion Military. Friday night is also homecoming for the Wildcats.

Ashford Academy Falcons (2-2) @ Lowndes Academy Rebels (3-2)

Coaches: Judd Etheridge | Art Sullivan

Breakdown: The Falcons opened their season with a week one loss to the Rebels of Chambers Academy but rebounded with back-to-back wins against Clavary Christian and South Montgomery County Academy. The Falcons evened their record at 2-2 with a loss to the Chiefs of Lakeside School. So far, this isn’t the type of year that the Rebels were planning on having. The Rebs lost in week one to Hooper Academy, but rebounded in week two to handle Lakeside School. LA hasn’t been able to recreate that magic in the third week of the season, falling to Autaugaville. The Rebels, however, moved back to .500 on the season with a 14-12 win over Chambers Academy in week four. They moved to having a winning record in week five with blowout victory over the Chambers Rebels on the road.
