Pioneer Electric Cooperative wants area residents to be on the look out and report to authorities an individual or individuals involved in a scam that is preying on area residents, mainly the elderly. The cooperative reports that someone is calling electric cooperative members, informing them that their meter has been tampered with.

Other residents report that the individual is trying to convince consumers that their meter has already been tampered with.

In some instances, the individual has also tried to instruct others how to steal electricity from the utility. An individual has even called in on a local radio talk show with some of the claims.

A $1,000 award is being offered that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals involved in this scam. If you have information that could help solve this, call your local law enforcement agency and Pioneer Electric. The number to call on this matter is 1-800-239-3092, ext. 261. By
