If playing against a nationally ranked team gives you a scorecard of where your program is and where it has to go, Concordia College got their grade Saturday afternoon. They didn’t make any honor rolls. The NAIA’s top 25 ranked Webber International University Warriors brought in a potent offense that stunned the Hornets 49-7.

Webber International finished five for five in the &8216;red zone’ for the afternoon. They also added points on an interception and on back-to-back safeties.

The Warriors put points on the board in its first two drives of the game, a 61-yard drive and a one-play, 56-yard drive – a 56-yard touchdown pass from Dedrick Sykes to Johnny Parker.

Concordia added points of their own in the quarter on a punt that was blocked by freshman Joseph Permenter.

They needed four plays to move 19 yards and reached the end zone on a 1-yard run by sophomore Simeon Arrington. The quarter ended with WIU up 14-7 and that proved to be the only scoring needed for the game.

The Concordia offense never got going the rest of the game.

The Warriors’ Derek Saucer kicked a 36-yard field goal in the second quarter.

They crossed the goal line again in the quarter after an interception gave them the ball at the Hornet 2-yard line, which followed with a 2-yard run by Vernon Reed. The half ended with the Warriors up 24-7.

WIU added points in the third quarter on a 9-play 65-yard touchdown drive and a safety.

In the fourth they added points on another safety, an interception that was returned for a touchdown and a 7-yard drive after a two-yard Concordia punt.

As the clock ticked down, Webber’s lead became insurmountable, winning 49 – 7.

Concordia, who’s record for the season is now 2-3, will have two weeks to prepare for Texas College which will be played on Oct. 15 in Tyler, TX.
