For the second week in a row, the Meadowview Christian Junior Varsity football team has pitched a shutout. This week’s victim was the Lions of Evangel Christian from Montgomery.

When the two school’s teams met two weeks ago, the Trojans ran away with a 25-6 victory. The Junior Trojans reached that score and held onto the shutout.

The game, which was gridlocked at 0-0 through the first quarter, quickly turned in favor of the home team.

On the first play from scrimmage of the second quarter, quarterback Stone Jackson took the snap and then handed off to J.R. Lowe. Lowe broke free for a 71-yard touchdown scamper and Brooke Ross powered through the line for the two-point conversion, pushing the score to 8-0.

After holding the Lions to another three-and-out series, Jackson found an open Lowe across the middle for 44-yards and a touchdown. The two-point attempt was stopped, but the lead still swelled 14-0.

Justin Estes capped a drive with a nine-yard touchdown run, swelling the lead to 20-0. Jackson hit Lowe in the end zone for the two-point conversion, moving the score to 22-0.

With under 0:30 seconds remaining in the half, Evangel’s quarterback rolled out to pass. Instead of his pass landing in the hands of one of his teammates, Meadowview’s Brooke Ross came down with it and returned it 74 yards for the touchdown. Davis Jones banged his way into the end zone for the two-point conversion, moving the score to 30-0 at the end of the half.

The Trojans didn’t provide the offensive fireworks in the second half, like they did in the first half, but the &8220;Junior Black-Hat Defense&8221; kept the door closed on the Evangel offense.

In the fourth quarter, Cooper Hayne reached up and picked an Evangel pass out of the air and carried it to the house from 65 yards out. The two-point attempt was stopped, but the nail was already in the coffin, 36-0.

Lowe proved to be the leading rusher for the Trojans, carrying the ball twice for 79 yards and a touchdown. Estes had eight carries for 71 yards and Ross had a quintet of carries for 50 yards.

Defensively, Estes led the team in tackles with 12. Josh Barlow had seven tackles and Russell Pardue had six and a half.

Even on the junior varsity level, the Trojans have been able to protect their house in two games.

Monday and for the next three weeks, Meadowview will be on the road. Their first road trip is to Hayneville to face Lowndes Academy.
