James O. &8220;Red&8221; Harrold

James O. &8220;Red&8221; Harrold passed away Thursday, September 08, 2005, at a local hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 11, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Donald Harris and Bro. Robert Ingram officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial followed at New Live Oak Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Robert Harrold of Selma and his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Otis Harrold of Northport, AL. Survivors include two sisters, Alice Faye Harrold and Geraldine Mayo, brother-in-law, Butch Mayo, nephew, Bill Mayo, all of Eutaw, AL, special friends Robert and Mary Ingram and their family of Selma.

James O. Harrold, best known as &8220;Red&8221; was recently retired as a longtime employee of Sears, after retirement he served as a security guard for American Apparel until his recent illness. For many years he was a supporter of Meadowview Christian School and their sports program. He was a faithful member and deacon of Westwood Baptist Church. He was also the leader of the Red Cross shelter at Westwood Baptist Church. He devoted a majority of his time taking care of those in need.

Active pallbearers were Robby Ingram, Mark Ingram, Charles Bruner, Randall Bruner, Charles Grant, and Kenneth Jones. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Abundant Life Sunday school class, deacons of Westwood Baptist Church, and active and retired employees of Sears.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Westwood Baptist Church Retirement Debt Fund.

Barbara L. Grodsky

Barbara L. Grodsky, age 63, died Friday September 9, 2005, in a Montgomery hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2005, in New Live Oak Cemetery officiated by Dr William Gardner and directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

She is survived by two sons, Kay (Belinda) Holbrook of Marion Junction, Bill (Clarice) Holbrook of Selma, one daughter, Kim (Joe) Wood of Tyler, and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Grodsky.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to a trust at AmSouth Bank to support her grandchildren.

Samuel Benson Beard, Sr.

Samuel Benson Beard, Sr. departed this life for a better place on Friday September 9, 2005. Born in Goldsboro, NC. November 2, 1958 to SSGT Duncan Ferrell and Nancy Darlene Beard, he attended various schools and graduated from Dallas County High School. He entered the U.S.A.F in 1976 and served until 1978. He was employed as an Industrial Electrician and became self-employed as a general contractor in 1993. He was very skilled in carpentry, masonry, concrete finishing, electrician, air conditioning and plumbing. Along with his brother he was a commercial fisherman. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He repaired cars, trucks, outboard motors, etc. &8220;If he couldn’t fix it, it wasn’t broke.

Survivors include his parents, Duncan Ferrell and Nancy Darlene Beard of Selma. Sons, Samuel B. Beard, Jr. of Selma and Jonathan N. Beard of The U. S. Marine Corps. Daughters, Renee (Shane) Dobbins of Selma and Erica (Michael) Boozer of Montgomery, Brothers, Michael Ferrell (Lori) Beard of Selma and Richard Alan (Karen) Beard of Newport News, VA. Sisters, Mary Beth (Bubba-Robert) McCloud of Selma and Patricia Ann Wallin of Selma, Grandchildren, Webb and Joshua Dobbins of Selma, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2005 at Joy Baptist Temple at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens with the Rev.

Ken Scott officiating and Selma Funeral Home, directing. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Selma Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be, Mike Boozer, George Henry, Leo Morgan, Chad Womack, Mike Brady and Bobby Luker.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Joy Baptist Temple Helping Hands Fund.
