Morgan Academy will have the opportunity this weekend to get their first taste of tournament volleyball.

The Lady Senators will travel to their new coach’s old stamping grounds of Marengo Academy to participate in the Lady Longhorns’ volleyball tournament.

For coach Carrie Nichols, this tournament will be an exciting, yet nerve-wracking experience.

The Lady Senators will face squads from home standing Marengo Academy, Jackson Academy, Wilcox and Monroe Academies.

While Nichols says that all the teams her squad will face this weekend will present challenges, she highlighted Jackson and Marengo as the toughest two the Lady Senators will face.

The Lady Senators were supposed to be in action against Mobile Christian at the end of this week, but due to the gas shortage and all that is going on around Mobile and Baldwin Counties, the Lady Senators meeting with the Lady Leopards was cancelled.

Morgan does have the advantage of going into this weekend’s tournament healthy.

Having the games cancelled has given the Lady Senators that opportunity to heal any bumps, bruises and scrapes the team might have.

The Lady Senators will be back in match-action beginning Monday with a road trip to Kingwood Christian and then on Tuesday with a home match against Marion Academy.

Start time for the Marion Academy match is set for 4 p.m.
