When practice ends Monday afternoon, the Warriors of Central Christian will know how to do one thing well: tackle.

On Friday night, Dawkins’ Warriors watched a 7-0 lead turn into a 23-19 defeat at the hands of the Calvary Christian Watchmen.

The Warriors took the field Friday and pushed ahead to an early lead, scoring on their first possession. With the point after, CCA jumped in front 7-0.

Calvary battled back and scored, missing the extra point but cutting the lead to one, 7-6.

Central Christian answered with a drive and score of their own, but missed the point after and the lead was pushed to seven, 13-6.

Calvary Christian took the lead late in the first half courtesy of a long run and a two-point conversion, 14-13.

The Watchmen broke a second run to push the lead to eight points, 21-13.

Calvary Christian took the first possession of the second half and drove down to the Warrior five-yard line. But the tribe toughened up and held them out of their end zone.

Central Christian turned around and carried the ball 95 for a score. They were stopped on the two-point attempt and trailed by a pair of points for a majority of the third period, 21-19.

Late in the game, the Warriors got back up into their own end zone giving up the safety and bringing the game to it’s final tally of 23-19.

Offensively, the Warriors carried the ball 164 yards, highlighted by Stanley Spencer. The freshman running back carried the ball 20 times for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns, one from three-yards out and then one from five yards away.

Eric Curtis had 76 yards on 13 carries and an eight-yard touchdown scamper.

Senior quarterback Bud Shoultz had 41 yards passing in his first start at the quarterback slot.

Brian Sanders accounted for the Warriors lone point after touchdown.

Defensively, Spencer accounted for seven tackles. Brian McCrary had five tackles and eight assists. Ryan Washington had six tackles and three assists. James Robert Tate had five tackles and one assist and Bryan Sanders had five tackles.

The Warriors will be on the road again next week, this time they will be facing East Memorial out of Prattville. The game, however will be played in Wetumpka and has a 7:30 kickoff.
