Edgewood took the field Friday night against Morgan and did just what coach Robert Gartman expected them to do en route to a 34-12 win: Throw the football.

Edgewood quarterback Phillip Moore led the Wildcat passing attack up and down Senator Field on the way to a 359-yard night that included a pair of touchdowns.

The Wildcats jumped on the Senators early and at the half led 21-0.

Chad Mansmann proved to be Moore’s favorite target, as the senior quarterback found the wide-out several times for 107 yards. Chezz McCann finished the night with 63 receiving yards and one touchdown. Kendal Lacey also had 63 yards and one touchdown. Travis Hayes, Phillip More

and McCann combined to carry the football 11 times for 80 yards, giving the Wildcats over 400 yards of total offense..

After struggling through the first quarter, the Senators were finally able to put points on the board in the second half.

In the third frame, the Senator offense took the ball and marched down the field. Rhett Rhyne capped the drive with a four-yard touchdown scamper. Morgan scored again in the fourth quarter. Running back Josh McAteer romped down the field for 71 yards and a Senator touchdown.

McAteer finished the night with 203 yards rushing on 22 carries.

The two Senator scores cut the lead in half, but Moore and Edgewood put another 10 points on the board bringing the game to its final tally.

Gartman plans to up the number of time the senior running back touches the football throughout the season.

The Senators relied heavily on their ground attack last night, getting production from not only McAteer, but from Rhyne and quarterback Jeremy Smith. The Senators rushed for 284 yards. Smith carried for four times for 20 yards from the quarterback position and Rhyne had four touches for 24 yards and one touchdown.

Under center, Smith was 3-of-8 passing for 13 yards.

Defensively, Will Summerlin had seven tackles and Ben Calloway had six.

The Senators will be back in action Friday night when they travel to Opelika to face the Lee-Scott Academy Warriors. Kick for that game is set for 7:30. p.m.
