Ulylesses Pompey Jr.

Ulylesses Pompey Jr., died Sunday, July 31, 2005.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, in Columbus, Ohio, with Min. Betty Wilson officiating. Burial followed in Eastlawn Cemetery with Gary Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Pompey was born on may 3, 1951 in Selma, Alabama, to Minnie B. Pompey and Ulylesses Pompey Sr. He attended high school at R. B. Hudson High. He was employed at Mt. Carmel West Hospital.

He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Minnie Pompey; his loving wife of 33 years, Mary Pompey; children, Jermaine (Angel) Pompey Sr. and Danielle (Don) Pompey Smith; grandchildren, Tenia, Devin, Jermaine Jr, Tarrent, Jalen, DaShaun and LaNijah; brothers, Willie (Pam) Pompey and Johnny (Benice) Gullett; sisters, Annie (Burt) Pickney, Shirley (Gary) Pompey Lewis, Gloria (Mark) Pompey, Gwendolyn Haith, Earline Pompey Norris and Linda (Willie) Hill; mother-in-law, Ola Morrison; sisters-in-law, DeShon (Anthony) Greenhow, Regina Morrison-Hill, Deborah Morrison, Diann (Edgar) Bolden and Kim Morrison; brothers-in-law, Emanuel (Venus) Morrison and Fredrick Morrison; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including special friend, Maurice Williams.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ulylesses Pompey Sr.

Maggie L. Smith

Maggie L. Smith, 69, of Selma, AL. died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at her home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005, at East Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Elbert Smith Sr.; two sons, Edward Smith and Stephany Smith both of Selma; three daughters, Florida Smith, Brenda Smith and Wanda Smith all of Selma, AL.

Clara Smith

Clara Smith, 86, of Selma, died Sunday, August 7, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Sandridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Otis Cleveland; one daughter, Lela M. Brown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Hattie Hunter

Hattie Hunter, 85, of Dallas County, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, August 13, at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John L. Ward officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include five sons, Walter (Grace) Moore of Selma, Willie Hunter of Detroit, Mich., James (Martha) Hunter of Sacramento, Calf., John Hunter and Eddie (Gwen) Hunter all of Selma; two daughters, Lorine (Samuel) Winston of So Easton, Mass., and Arlean (Steve) Greene; one brother, Monroe Sullivan of Selma; one sister, Mamie Smith of Birmingham; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; three daughters-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Santee Shannon Jr.

Santee Shannon Jr., 63, of Chicago, Ill., died Monday, August 8, 2005, in Chicago, Ill.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2005, at New Shiloh Baptist Church, Sardis, with the Rev. Stevenson Tullis officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Shannon.

William Carnes

William Carnes, 65, of Hayneville, died Sunday, August 7, 2005, at a Montgomery hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 13, at New Mt. Lilly Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in Carnes Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Ida O. Sigler

Ida O. Sigler, 86, of Tyler, AL, died Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at a local hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Ever Williams

Ever Williams, 78, a resident of Letohatchee, AL, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 2:30 p.m. at Lily Baptist Church with the Rev. Fletcher Fountain officiating. Burial will follow in Lily Baptist Churchyard Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Shannon Simmons

Shannon Simmons, 27, a resident of Letohatchee, AL, died Wednesday. August 3, 2005.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Churchyard Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

John Smith

Baby Laresa M. Scott

Baby Laresa M. Scott, 21 mos. old., a resident of Letohatchee, AL, died Wednesday,

August 3, 2005.

Mary J. McReynolds

Mary J. McReynolds, 46, a resident of White Hall, AL, died Sunday, August 7, 2005.

Mary Brown

Mary Brown, age 62 of Gallion, Alabama, passed August 9, 2005, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2005. at 12 noon, at John The Baptist Church, Gallion, Alabama, with the Rev. Gerome Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens, Demopolis, Alabama with Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Susie Thomas

Susie Thomas, age 92, of Demopolis, Alabama, passed August 9, 2005, a hospital, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 14, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Nazareth of Galilee Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama, with the Rev. Jesse Bell officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the church on Sunday beginning at 1:30 p.m. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama entrusted with arrangements.

Virginia Temple Boley

Virginia T. Boley, age 65, died Wednesday August, 10, 2005 in a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2:15 p.m., Friday August 12, 2005 at Palmer Cemetery, Furman, AL with Mark Smith officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Family visitation will be Friday from 12:30-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Boley was born June 1, 1940 the last child of John and Bernice Boley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bernice Boley of Furman, AL; brothers, Ivan Boley of Selma; John Boley of Santa Rosa, CA; James Boley of Selma; William Boley of Selma; Bennie Boley of Tyler, TX, and Patrick Boley of Baker, FL.

She is survived by her brothers, Sylvan Boley of Chicago, IL; and Eugene Boley of Elkhart, TX; and one sister Kate Smith of Napa, CA; sisters-in-law, Barbara Boley, Helen Boley, Charlie Boley, Farrell Boley, and Jane Boley. 26 nieces and nephews and her adopted family at the Earl Goodwin Home in Selma, AL where Virginia made her home for a number of years. Pallbearers will be her nephews Matt Boley, Jim Boley, Wayne Reed, George York, Ray Boley, and Ivan Boley

Richard C. &8220;Dick&8221; Solomon

Richard C. &8220;Dick&8221; Solomon, 74, beloved husband and devoted father, passed away at his home, Tuesday, August 9, 2005, after an extended illness.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 12, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Vaughn Park Church of Christ with Ministers Martel Pace and Brad Sullivan officiating.

A graveside service will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2005, from 5-7 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home.

Mr. Solomon was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Carol Barton Solomon and infant grandson, Garret Willis Solomon.

He is survived by his second wife, Judy Anne Hughes Solomon, formerly of Bridgeport, AL; children, Mike (Tammy), Deebe (David) Rock, Gregg, Bart (Ruth Ellen), Paris Faulkner, Gena (Kenneth)Hill; a sister, Betty Rose Hilton; grandchildren, Marci, Leah, Rachel, Carli (Alan) Compton, Miller, Jonn-David, Lindsey, Katie, Rebecca, Richard, Will, Sol, Wesley and Jackson and other extended family members.

Honorary pallbearers will be David and Bert Talley, Charles Pollack, Bill Travis, Alan Weeks, Joe Donaldson, Dick DeEray, Randy Rushton and Dick DeBray.

He was a member of Vaughn Park Church of Christ. He worked at Union Bank and Trust Company from 1968 to 1994, serving as Executive Vice- President and as Vice- President of Regions Bank during merger and transition from 1995 – 1996. Mr. Solomon served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer of the Blue Gray Association. He was a former president of the Montgomery Lions Club and served on the Board of Directors. He served as a volunteer counselor for S.C.O.R.E. and also volunteered on United Way committees. He served on the Board of Trustees for Faulkner University and was Director of Career Placement. He was active in numerous other civic organizations.
