When Carrie Nichols stalked the Marengo Academy sidelines, last year’s volleyball match-up against Morgan

was just another game.

This year, Nichols has traded her bright orange

for

red and white

and has a different opinion of the squad.

Having that chemistry comes from playing together and having a team with four seniors.

Nichols said that after seeing the girls in action on a daily basis, she is impressed with their success and their improvement.

When tryouts for varsity slots rolled around, the new coach found herself short a full squad. To remedy that problem, Nichols bumped three freshmen from the junior varsity squad and made them full-time varsity. Sarah Hughey, Erica Friday and Samantha Wilkerson were the three awarded that honor. Nichols also said that some of her true varsity players have been impressive.

Nichols plans to use a system that rotates two setters. One will set and then will rotate back to middle blocker.

Nichols and the Lady Senators are looking to make noise this season. In order to do so they need to knock off teams like Clarke Prep, Kingwood and, of course, Marengo Academy.
