Sadie B. Smith

Sadie B. Smith, 73, of Selma, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. B. T. Booker officiating. Burial will follow in New Sister Spring Church Cemetery with Walker Mortuary directing.

Survivors include two sons, Charles B. Smith and Victor C. Smith; two daughters, Phyllis R. Little and Toya F. Reuben; one brother, Sylvester Hatcher; five sisters, Zelma D. White, Dorothy Tanksley, Maxine Maddrey, Vivian King and Betty Webb; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and one god-daughter; and one god granddaughter.

Active pallbearers will be nephews.

The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.

Roosevelt Sanders

Roosevelt Sanders, 74, of Pensacola, Fla., died Monday, July 25, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at Providence Baptist Church on Kings Bend Rd., with the Rev. Darryl Moore officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Clarence James Mauldin Jr.

Clarence James Mauldin Jr., 49, of Chicago, Ill., died Sunday, July 17, 2005, in Chicago, Ill.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Aimwell M.B. Church with the Rev. Charles L. Lett, M.D. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Jean Mauldin; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence J. Mauldin Sr.; two sons, Jermy Mauldin and Je’Juan Mauldin of Tuskegee, AL; two daughters, Jalisa Mauldin and Jamila Mauldin; one brother, Reginald Mauldin of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Edith Mauldin (Leroy) Higdon of Warwick, Rhode Island and Alethea Mauldin of Tuskegee, AL.

Active pallbearers will be graduates of Keith High School Class of 1975 and friends.

Candra Owens

Candra Owens, 18, a resident of Hope Hull, AL, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Williams officiating.

Lindburgh Robinson

Lindburgh Robinson, 76, a resident of La Pine, AL, died Monday, July 25, 2005.

Lloyd Tabb

Lloyd “Nick” Tabb 54, of Marion Junction, died of injuries sustained during an accident on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at a Selma hospital.

Born May 28, 1951, in Massillon, AL, Lloyd was the son of the late Gus Acoff and Mary Will Tabb. On June 23, 1975, he was united in marriage to Ella Washington of Marion Junction, AL. To this union two children were born Timothy Washington and Carlos Tabb. Lloyd raised and cared for a step daughter Mary Ann Washington from the age of one (1) until present time.

On April 21, 2003, Lloyd was united in marriage to Betty Jean Hudson of Uniontown, AL. There were no children born of this union.

Lloyd was a Hwy. Technician with the AL. Dept. of Transportation and a former employee with the Dallas County Board of Commission for a total of 19 years combined. He enjoyed hunting, farming, and spending time with his family and friends. He brought joy and laughter to all he met. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend and will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived and cherished by his wife Betty Jean, two sons Timothy and Carlos, Marion Junction, AL; three daughters Mary Ann and Alfreda, Marion Junction, AL; Dorothea, Selma, AL, six grandchildren Calvin Washington, Nikhya and Nikierra Tabb, Travis, Quinton and Alisha Bone, four brothers John Tabb, Travis, Quinton and Alisha Bone, four brothers John Tabb, Bessemer, AL; Benjamin (Annette) Tabb, Flint, MI; Albert (Margaret) Tabb, Marion Junction, AL; Johnny Acoff, Selma, AL; five sister Velma Stewart, Flint, MI; Jeanette (Preston) Walker and Dorothy Bash, Bessemer, AL; Ann Williams, Marion Junction, AL, and Bernice Martin, Selma, AL; one uncle Ulysses Tabb, Clarksville, Tennessee; one aunt Virginia Lucas, Mobile, AL; three sister in law Mattie Walker, Clarksville, TN; Annette Tabb, Flint, MI; and Margaret Tabb, Marion Junction, AL; one brother in law Preston Walker, Bessemer, AL ; two devoted nieces, Jacqueline Bash, Bessemer, AL; and Alisia Flennory, Marion Junction, AL; two devoted nephews Andrew Bash, Lowndes County and Marcus Tabb, Marion Junction, AL; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his father, Gus Acoff; mother, Mary Will Tabb; and two brothers Eugene Walker and (twin) Floyd Tabb; and a loving aunt Mary Tabb.

Matilda Harris

Matilda Harris, 90, a resident of Hope Hull, AL, died Friday, July 22, 2005.

Earnest C. McCraken

Mr. Earnest C. McCracken, 79, of Panama City Beach Fla., passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at his home.

He was born in Ralph, Ala. and had lived in Bay County since 1983, moving there from Jonesboro, Ga.

He retired after 33 years as a comptroller with the United States Army and Air Force Recruiting Service.

Mr. McCracken was a member of the Gulf View United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Doris Brzuska McCracken of Panama City Beach; his children: Debbie McCracken Cox and her husband Dan of Alabaster, Ala., Sheryl L. Brzuska of Redlands, Calif., Garry C. Brzuska and his wife

Debbie of Panama City; a brother, Bobby Ray McCracken and his wife Dorothy of Moody, Ala.;

grandchildren: Stephen A. Brzuska, Donald C. Brzuska, Davis L. Cox, and Daniel T. Cox; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2005 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Grant Parker officiating.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Donnie Brzuska, Dan Cox, Daniel Cox, Davis Cox, Steve Self, Joe Feix, and Mike McCracken.

Honorary pallbearers will include; Buford Campbell, Jack Wright, and Garry Brzuska.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, July 29, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Danny Eugene Craig, age 55, died Wednesday July 27, 2005 in Gulf Shores. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday July 29, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery officiated by Dr. Cecil Williamson and directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mr. Craig is survived by his wife, Sharon Craig of Gulf Shores, his mother, Nona Craig of Selma, his children, Jody Craig of Gulf Shores, Clint Craig of Selma, Amy Harrison of Newnan, GA; brothers, Steve Craig of Selma, Rusty Craig of Defuniak Springs, FL; sisters, Brenda Craig of Montgomery, Debra Hanes of Slapout; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas R Craig.

Charles H. Washington, Sr.

Charles H. Washington, Sr., 70, of Forkland, Alabama, passed Sunday, July 24, 2005, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Lloyd Chapel Baptist Church, Forkland, Alabama, the Rev. Clayborn May officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Catherine Ruffin Cleveland

Catherine Ruffin Cleveland, 71, of Selma, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. R.T. Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memorial Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald (Joyce) Cleveland of Hampton, Va., Charles Allen Cleveland of Los Angeles, Calif., and Alfred (Mary) Cleveland of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Linda (Richard) Berry of Virginia Beach, Va., Gwendolyn Cleveland, Constance (Herbert) Allen of Selma; Carolyn (Sidney) Harris of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Coretta (Anthony) Smith of Selma; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Charlie Reese

Charlie Reese, 88, of Selma, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at New Sisters Spring Baptist Church with Rev. Chester Purifoy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Johnny Otis White; two daughter, Charlie Mae Reese Davis and Belinda Lewis Wells (Eddie Wells Jr.); two sisters, Jessie Mae Johnson and Ozzie Bell Butler; 31 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Mary Underwood Reese and Albert Moore, one daughter, Lois Struggs Acoff and four brothers, Percy and Wilbert Reese and Bo and Samuel Moore.

Willie James Mitchell, 59, of Orrville, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at a local hospital.

Rodie Walker

Rodie Walker, 88, of Marion Jct., AL, died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at home.

Services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Salem P.B. Church with the Rev. Lee L. Green officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Alice Allen of Riverdale, Ga.; one faithful and devoted loving granddaughter, Essie Mae Tucker of Marion Jct., AL; two brothers, Tommy Lee Tolbert and Clarence Tolbert both of New Orleans; three sisters, Channie Clark of Buffalo, N.Y., Martha Woodfork of New Orleans and Annie Pearl Webb of Indianapolis, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of other relatives.

Jerry Richard Johnston

Jerry Richard Johnston, 61, of Stuttgart died July 27, 2005, at Hospice Home Care In-Patient Center in Little Rock.

Born in Knoxville,

Tenn., on June 5, 1944, he was a son of the late Earl Lavelle and Madelyn Seeger Johnston. Dick, as he was known, is survived by his children, Meg Johnston of Little Rock, and Mitchell and Melissa Johnston of Little Rock and grandson, Andrew Johnston, as well as his twin sister, Janice Elliott of Greenwood, S.C.; a sister, June Hungarland of Marietta, Ga.; and a brother, Jim Johnston of Memphis, Tenn.

Dick was a 1966 graduate of Southwestern

College at Memphis where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In 1972 he received his Juris Doctor from the University

of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he served as Editor in Chief of the Arkansas Law Review. Dick began his legal career in Little Rock. In 1975 he quit his law practice to farm in Stuttgart. Subsequently, he returned to law practice which he pursued until his death. At the time of his death, he also worked as a volunteer chaplain at Tucker Prison and was a postulant for the ordination to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church.

Throughout his life, Dick actively was involved in the community. He was a past Treasurer of the City of Stuttgart and past member of the Arkansas State Plant Board. He also formerly served on the board of the Stuttgart Regional

Medical Center. He was active in the Episcopal Church and had served on the Executive Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas, the Vestry of St. Albans Episcopal Church in Stuttgart, and the Episcopal Cursillo of Arkansas. Dick was heavily involved in the Episcopal Prison Ministry in Arkansas which recently began planning an annual summer camp for the children of prisoners which will be called the Dick Johnston Childrens Camp.

A burial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday,

July 30, 2005, at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Stuttgart and will be followed by burial at Lone

Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart. The family will be at 1111 S. Grand in Stuttgart. At the request of the family, memorials may be made to the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas, P.O. Box 164668, Little

Douglas Earl Kirk, Sr.

Douglas Earl Kirk, Sr. age 71, died Wednesday July 27, 2005 in a Birmingham hospital. Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Saturday officiated by Dr Cecil Williamson and Rev Tommy Fancher.

Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens. Mr. Kirk is survived by his wife, Jeanie J Kirk of Valley Grande, Children, Douglas E (Trease) Kirk, Jr. of Valley Grande and Kimberly K (Jeff) Cogle of Selma; grandchildren, Kari K (Jimmy) Benson, Jed Dylan Kirk, Brittany J Cogle, Kirk S Cogle, and J Clayton Cogle; brothers, Robert W (Irene) Kirk and William R (Barbara) Kirk; sisters, Elizabeth K Hare, Lois K (John) Britton, Lucille K. Thelma Smith Corson

Thelma Smith Corson, age 83, of Selma died Wednesday July 27, 2005. Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday at New Live Oak Cemetery officiated by Rev Doug Chappelle and directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. She is survived by children, Roberta (Kenneth) Harris of Valley Grande and George (Sandra) M Corson of Selma, grandchildren, Tonya Holt of Valley Grande, Carrie (Scott) Dean Of Prattville, Nancy Wilkerson of Linden, Kenneth (Frances) Harris, Jr. of Hartselle, brothers, William (Ann) O. Smith of Selma, Terry Malcolm (Evelyn) Smith of Fort Deposit, and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Oscar Smith and Roberta Green Smith, husband, George W. Corson and brothers, Aubrey Smith, John Smith, Owen Smith, and sister, Farrell Mae Cooper and Doris Van Staden. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Ruth R. Tate

Ruth Runions Tate age 90, died Wednesday July 27, 2005 in a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday July 30, 2005 at Rosemont Cemetery, Uniontown, AL with Rev. George McKee and Rev. Lee Jack Pino officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Tate is survived by her children, Naomi (Bobby) Coley of Birmingham, Jackie (A.L.) Woodfin of Selma, Robert (Sadie) Tate of Selma, Wayne (Shirley) Tate of Orlando, Fl, Caroline (Lamar) Walker of Nashville, TN, 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Family visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
