Scott Alexander, owner of three Selma radio stations known as Alexander Broadcasting, is happy that he got to raise kids in Selma.

So good, in fact, that he has one child on her way to becoming a psychiatrist and another ready to take over the family business.

In fact, Alexander Broadcasting has been a family affair.

Alexander’s wife Lorraine also serves as an officer of the company.

The business has been in Alexander’s family for over 30 years now, and he couldn’t be happier about it.

While many so-called &8220;mom and pop&8221; radio stations around the country have been bought out by big conglomerates, Alexander said that won’t happen to WALX, WJAM and WMRK.

Because Alexander’s stations have managed to stay small

and local, he said he’s able to serve the community better.

A prime example, Alexander said, was the station’s work during Hurricane Dennis.

The station has backup power in place to continue broadcasting through the bad weather. But, it got ugly, he said.

Alexander’s radio tower sits just outside the studios office. Though the storm huffed and puffed, he said the tower held up well.

Because of the backup systems and the commitment of his staff, Alexander said the station broadcast valuable information throughout the storm.

Despite keeping busy with his family and family-owned business, Alexander does manage to find time for another passion, flying his Piper Comanche.
