MAPLESEVILLE &045;The work we do here, now, makes practices and the games easier,&uot; Maplesville High School football coach Brent Hubbert reminded his players during conditioning drills on Tuesday afternoon. The young MHS players had their own motivations when doing drills. Phrases like "pride,&uot; "tradition,&uot; "homework,&uot; and "Dallas County" were shouted before each of the linemen sprinted through different agility drills.

That youthful exuberance could be what fuels the Maplesville Red Devils this fall during football season.

The Red Devils finished the year right at .500 with a 5-5 record, earning them a berth into the playoffs. Their run however ended after the first round. One of the perks of having a young team is that there is potential for them to retain knowledge of the system from a year ago. That means less covering the basics and more adding bells and whistles.

Hubbert realizes that eight weeks is not enough time to gain a lot of strength.

Maplesville will kick off their season on August 19 with a pre-season game against Thorsby.
