Nancy Shanahan Mason

Nancy Shanahan Mason, 72, of Benton, AL died on Sunday, June 26, 2005, in a Montgomery hospital after an extended illness.

She was born on September 8, 1932 in Selma, AL She was a member of the 1950 graduating class Albert 0. Parrish High School and graduated from Stephens College in Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Good Hope Presbyterian Church, Benton with Rev. John Boles and Rev. M. R. Bradley officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will follow the service at the Southern Sportsman Hunting Lodge on Hwy. 80.

Mrs. Mason was the daughter of the late John Edwin and Ethel Clements Shanahan of Benton and was preceded in death by her brother James Darby Shanaban.

Survivors include her husband, Leoto Dudley Mason of Benton; her children, James Logan (Jim) Mason and wife Tammy of Benton, Nancy Mason Bernard and husband David of Auburn and Susan Mason Hand and husband Jerome of Montgomery; a brother, John Edwin Shanahan, Jr. and his wife Kay of Montgomery; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Sbanahan of Montgomery; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Kayla and Logan Mason, Mason and Mallory Bernard, and Meredith and Matthew Hand; five nieces and nephews and her special friends, the “Keen Teens”.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Cooper, Pierce Lane, Duke Logan, Dave Lyon, Reese McCurdy, Mike Shanahan, Jack Shanahan and Perry Woodruff.

Bernadette Alvera Whitt

Bernadette Alvera Whitt, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Beloit, AL, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at her home.

Ms. Whitt was the daughter of Mrs. Rosa Whitt and the late Arlue Whitt of Beloit.

The Omega-Omega Services will be held from 10:45 – 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 14618 Lincoln Ave. in Harvey, Ill., with Gaplines Funeral Home directing.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Whitt Cemetery, (next to Hopewell Baptist Church on County Road 9 in Beloit.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 30, at Miller Funeral Home, Selma.

Robert Kelley

Robert “Rob” Kelley, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at a Montgomery hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lawrence Funeral Home.

Willie Mae Maurer

Willie Mae Maurer, age 87, of Selma, AL passed away June 26, 2005, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2005, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

Mrs. Maurer is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Robert) Bates of Selma, AL; her son, Louis Maurer of Selma, AL; one brother, Willard (Nell) Sewell of Selma, AL; three sisters, Alberta (Earnest) Nichols of Memphis, TN, Ethelene Mitchell of Sardis, AL and Shelby Jean (Glenn) Hales of Biloxi, MS; three grandchildren, Dewauna (Richard) Vinson of Valley Grande, AL, Darlene Johnson of Valley Grande, AL and Angie (Mike) Del Busto of Miami, FL; and four great-grandchildren, Austin Vinson, Shane Vinson, Melissa Del Busto and Jessica Del Busto.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. P. Maurer, one son, Jerry Maurer, one brother, Chester Sewell, four sisters, Odel Sewell, Hazel Wallace, Louise Tyler, and Murvis Davis and one great grandchild, James Johnson.

Pallbearers will be David Hulsey and the Deacons of Northside Baptist Church.
