Mattie Tunnell Weston

Mattie Tunnell Weston died Saturday, June 25 2005. She was 91 years old. She was a devout Christian and loving mother and grandmother. She was a charter member of Fairview Baptist Church where she remained active in all areas of church work until her health failed. She taught Kindergarten for more than 25 years and later at Craig AFB. She also taught 4 and 5 year-old Sunday School classes for many years. She and her late husband were avid campers and made many friends in their camping clubs. She loved flowers and raised many beautiful African violets and azaleas. She was a talented seamstress and later in life discovered a talent for painting

which she enjoyed with her friends.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Henry (Wes) Weston. Survivors include one son Joe (Mary) Weston of Valparaiso, Fla., one daughter Louanne (Jimmy) Ellison of Selma, grandchildren Brenda (Christopher) Barbee of Destin, Fla., Mary Jo (Harold) Norman of Oxford, Ga., David Ellison and Jerry (Janet) Ellison of Selma, fourteen great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at Fairview Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 2 p.m. with Lawrence Funeral Home directing and the Rev. Glen Smith officiating. Burial will be in the New Live Oak Cemetery. Pall bearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The family is accepting flowers, or memorials may be made to Cahaba Hospice or Fairview Baptist Church.
