Dr. Christopher deBuzna smiled proudly and simply said, &8220;it’s back.&8221;

The headmaster of Morgan Academy, deBuzna said that his school has been named the Alabama Independent School Association’s (AISA) Class AAA President’s Award Winner for the 2004-2005 school year.

To be selected for this award, an AISA school must demonstrate excellence in standardized testing, scholarships, academic scholars, academic competition, professional personnel standards and development, accreditation, and other activities.

He said that up until last year, Morgan had won the President’s Award for eight consecutive years.

Some of the school’s accomplishments include having a state spelling champion and a state art winner, having half of the sixth grade class qualify for the Duke Talent Search and seven of those students recognized at the University of Alabama, having a high number of college scholarship recipients and having a student recognized in the Birmingham Post Herald top 70.

He said that despite being in the Black Belt – an area that is often looked down upon – there is a lot of talent here.

Morgan Academy will be recognized September during the AISA’s annual meeting in Montgomery.
