The silver screen at the historic Walton Theater is getting plenty of use this summer with two movie screenings every week.

For less than the cost of a box of candy, adults and children can spend the hot afternoons inside the theater watching their favorite movies from the past and present.

Earlier this month the theater brought back its popular Children’s Day series. Every Wednesday at 2 p.m. the theater screens family-friendly films.

The cost of admission is only a $1 donation.

Wayne McKenzie, the theater’s projectionist, said doors open at 1:30 p.m. and families

or large groups can drop by to catch a flick.

On Wednesday, around 20 area children, the majority from a YMCA summer program, attended the screening of the movie &8220;Monsters, Inc.&8221;

One of those who came to the Children’s Day program, 10-year-old Scotty Manges, said he visits the theater every week.

Scotty’s mom, Debbie, said she and her son use the program as a way to spend time together.

The theater is also continuing it’s year-round Senior’s Day series. On Tuesday’s at 2 p.m., the theater screens classic movies for area senior citizens. The cost is also a $1 donation and includes popcorn and drinks.

In July, the Children’s Day movies will include &8220;The Black Stallion,&8221; &8220;Muppets go to Manhattan,&8221; &8220;Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,&8221; and &8220;Pocahantas.&8221;

The Senior’s Day movies next month include &8220;The Sting,&8221; one against the Wing,&8221; &8220;the Shadow Rivers&8221; and &8220;Heaven Can Wait.&8221;
