Alabama’s success in attracting overseas car manufacturing plants has recently garnered the attention of international media.

On Wednesday, the Washington, D.C. bureau chief for The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, a Tokyo-based business newspaper, visited Selma to learn how the car companies and its suppliers are impacting the state.

Jitsu met and interviewed Mayor James Perkins, councilwoman Jean Martin and other Selma business leaders.

Jitsu said he plans to do more interviews in Montgomery today and will then fly to Detroit to investigate that city’s auto industry.

According to the company’s Web site, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun is the world’s largest-selling business daily newspaper and is the primary source of information for Japan’s top executives and decision-makers.

Jitsu, a Japanese native, said he has been based out of Washington, D.C. for nearly two years.
