A woman was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash Wednesday evening as she was making a deposit into a drop box outside the AmSouth Bank on Broad Street.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the unidentified woman, an employee of a local fast food restaurant which Selma Police refused to name, was about to place the money into a drop box next to the AmSouth ATM machine when a black male approached her.

“They struck up a conversation, then he demanded the bag of money,” said Lt. David Evans, Selma police spokesperson.

Evans said the woman reported to police that she thought she saw the man brandishing some type of “black and shiny” weapon.

After the woman complied with the robber’s demand, he fled the scene on foot through an alley next to the bank.

Evans said police have not yet made any arrests in this case.

“Investigators are reviewing the security tape from the ATM machine,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding this robbery is asked to call Selma police at 874-6611.
