It ain’t exactly Ivan, but Tropical Storm Arlene is threatening to follow the hurricane’s path to Dallas County.

Arlene is expected to hit the area sometime during the day Saturday, according to Bob Larson.

Larson, a senior meteorologist with Accuweather, said Arlene won’t be as devastating as a hurricane but it will create some problems.

“The biggest impact is going to be rain,” Larson said.

Arlene is expected to pour 3 to 5 inches of rain in the area, which Larson said could cause flooding.

“That (the rainfall) would count some of the thunderstorms,” he said.

Larson said Arlene would create thunderstorms in the area starting Friday night.

Even with the wind and the rain, Larson said one of the biggest dangers could be tornados.

“Tropical systems often will spawn tornadoes and that is a concern,” Larson said.

Because of the random nature of tornadoes, Larson said the number and location

couldn’t be predicted.
