Robert F. Smith

Robert F. (Sam) Smith, 93, of Fostoria, AL, died Saturday, June 4. Graveside services were held Sunday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Braggs Cemetery with Rev. William Ernest, Rev. Sandy Simmons and Rev. Tony Hughes officiating. Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directed.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Robert F. Smith, Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Susie Smith Small (Joe) of Fostoria, AL; five grandchildren, Cindy Smith King (Frank), Robert F. Smith III (Darlene), Joe Small, Jr. (Pat), Carolyn Harrell (David) and Michael Small; six great-grandchildren, Robert F. Smith, IV, Joanna Small, Toby King, Taylor King, David Merle Harrell and Cody Harrell. Pallbearers will be Joe Small, Jr., Michael Small, Robert Smith, III, Frank King, David Harrell and Richard Lang. Honorary pallbearer will be Jack Mayo. The family requests donations be made to Farmersville United Methodist Church, Victory Junction Gang Camp, 311 Branson Mill Road, Randleman, N.C. 27317 or Wiregrass Hospice of Selma.

George Kyser

George Patton Kyser, 89, passed away Saturday, June 4. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Carlowville, and served that parish as a lay reader, Senior Warden, and various other capacities.

Mr. Kyser attended school in Carlowville and at Alabama Polytechnic Institute. He spent four years in the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater during WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Reynolds Kyser; his sons George P., Jr., and wife Mary Margaret Kyser of Montgomery, and Samuel Reynolds Kyser of Enterprise; grandchildren, Mary Patton Kyser of Montgomery and Samuel Reynolds Kyser, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada; and his sister, Harriet Sarah Kyser Owens.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Alison Kyser and William Townsend Kyser.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 6 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Carlowville, with burial in St. Paul’s Churchyard with Rev. Dan Thornton officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Family and friends are invited to gather in the Parish House immediately following the service.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Carlowville or the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.

Active Pallbearers will be Joseph Alison Kyser of Greensboro, Jr., William Townsend Kyser II of Greensboro, Ira Bruce Owens Jr. of Camden, Jere Dillon Peak of Selma, Lyle Hamilton Smith III of Minter, and Francis Douglas Smith of Minter.
