Frank Stringer

Frank Stringer, a resident of Collirene, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2005.

Services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, May 28, 2005, at New Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in churchyard cemetery.

Gary R. Kilgore

Gary R. Kilgore, of Pleasantfield Al., died May 17 at his home. Burial was May 19. The graveside service was at Pleasantfield church. He was born July 30, 1950 to Paul M Kilgore and Vona C Kilgore a set of triplets.

Born in Wilton Al., they later moved to Selma.

Gary joined the U.S Army spending 21 years before retiring. He was giving full military honors. His sister, Mary and Sherry were both presented with a U.S Flag.

He is survived by four brothers, Charles (Sybil) Kilgore of Florida, Claude Kilgore of Pleasantfield, Al, Paul (Nelda) Kilgore, MS and Wesley (Hazel) Kilgore, GA.; seven sisters, Barbara (Earl) Thompson, Fl, Jean Smitha, N Vernon, IN, Bettye Dawkins, MS, Brenda (Lewis) Chappelle, Selma, Mary (Barry) Church, Burnsville, Sherry Banks, Maplesville and Cheryl Mims of Selma; one sister-in-law, Stella Kilgore, Pleasantfield; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul M Kilgore, Mother Vona C (Johnnie) Grindle; a brother, Franklin Kilgore; two nephews, Colby Miley and Devin Rushing; two nieces, Linda Burnette and Laura Miley.

James E. Brown

James E. “Belly” Brown, 56, of Demopolis, Alabama passed Sunday, May 22, 2005, at a Demopolis

hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Eastern Star Baptist Church, Demopolis, Alabama, the Rev. Terry Gosa, pastor and the Rev. Carlton Hoque will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Demopolis, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Alabama directing.

The body will lie in state at the church beginning at 10 a.m.

Ann Worrell

Ann “Jill” Louise Worrell, 66, died Wednesday May 25, 2005, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday May 27, 2005, at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. James Hodgens officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Worrell is survived by her mother; Lavelle B. Worrell, son, William Mark Osburn, three grandchildren; Whitney Osburn, Aaron Osburn, and Michael Osburn, Jr., sisters; Mitzi Snead, Judy Livingston, Kathy Averett, Jo Taylor, and Tommie Autrey. She was preceded in death by her father; Thomas Coy Worrell, and two sons; Lowell Steve Osburn and Michael David Osburn.

Family visitation will be Friday May 27, 2005 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

James A. Gatewood

James A. Gatewood, 43, of Hope Hull, died Saturday, May 21, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Paul AME Church with Pastor Joseph Rembert officiating. Burial will follow in James Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Leo Crenshaw

Leo Crenshaw, 22, of Selma, died Sunday, May 22, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Ellwood Community Church with Pastor Gary Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Beatrice Smith Rentz

Beatrice Smith Rentz, 75, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, at Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. L.L. Ruffin officiating and Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, Willie (Elizabeth) Smith of Selma and David S. Rentz of California; three daughters, Lillian T. Rentz of Selma, Annie Jean (James) Ashe of Cleveland, Ohio and Sarah Ann (Curtis) George of Elyria, Ohio; one brother, James White of California; three sisters, Emma B. White of Selma, Essie Fitzgerald of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Willie Lee Johnson of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Willie B. Taylor, 91, of Fort Deposit, died Friday, May 20, 2005.

Shirley Stinson, 50, of Mosses, died Saturday, May 21, 2005.

Henry Purifoy, 84, of Hayneville, AL, died Saturday May 21, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Greater Mt. Olive AME Zion Church with the Rev. Ezekiel Washington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Kate Wheeler

Kate Wheeler, of Oviedo, Florida, formerly of Selma, died in Florida.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday May 28, 2005, at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Sardis directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.

Thomas Smith

Thomas Smith, 71, of Hayneville, died Saturday, May 21, 2005.
