Custom Rim and Tire jumped out to an early lead Tuesday night, but ended up having to scrap and claw to hang on to it, notching their eighth win of the season and remaining atop the 13-and 14-year old softball standings.

The squad, led by the sticks of Amber Stevens, DeAnna Steele, Ashley Grimes and Payton Reese disposed to First Avenue Cleaners 17-12.

Custom Rim led 12-2 through four innings, but First Avenue got their bats warmed up and rallied, but fell short.

In the first inning Custom sent nine batters to the plate and came away with four runs.

Kelsey Nelson, Grimes, Steele and Chelsea Sturdivant all came around to score. The Cleaners answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame, scored by Shayla Griffin.

Custom jumped further ahead in the third inning, banging out only a select few hits and having a majority of their base runners reach on errors.

The blue-clad Custom Rim squad posted seven runs in the top of the third inning to turn the tide of the game and put it close to being a case for the Mercy rule.

First Avenue forced an extra inning by scoring two runs, bringing the score to 12-3.

Custom Rim posted five more runs in the top of the next inning, but gave up nine in the bottom half of the frame.
