Julie Ann Minter pretty much inherited her desire to help out, the Selma resident said.

“In a good kind of way,” she said.

Her mother and mother-in-law were both involved in the Selma Charity League, and now so is she.

“It’s something I would never consider not doing,” she said. “I love it.”

This year was Minter’s first helping the league. She said it’s been great.

Her activities include tutoring children at Meadowview Elementary and, just recently, throwing a picnic for the clients in the Cahaba Center’s Mental Retardation Training Program.

“It was wonderful,” Minter said. “They were all so sweet and they were wonderful.”

The picnic featured a softball game for the participants.

The league isn’t the only thing she’s involved in. Minter said she also serves with her church’s Meals on Wheels program and Sunday school.

She’s also been a classroom mom for her daughter kindergarten at Leika’s.

Minter said the experience she’s gotten with the Charity League has given her a new outlook on life.

“The Charity League has definitely touched my life and it has opened my eyes to all aspects of the community,” she said.

Minter said working with the league is just a chance to give back to the community and help make the world better and allow her to take good care of her two children, Cink and Gilley.

“I’m fortunate that I don’t have to work that I can stay really busy with both of them and try to help others,” she said. “That’s my main goal in life is to help people be better people.”
