Adele Bloch Lipson

Adele Bloch “Sis” Lipson, age 80, moved on to the next celebration on Sunday, May 15, 2005, surrounded by her friends and family, in Tampa, Florida.

Born on February 18, 1925, in Selma, Alabama, she tasted life as a connoisseur extraordinaire.

She lived in Pensacola for many years as Mrs. Jerome Bear before marrying Dr. Harry A. Lipson and moving to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and then Tampa.

She was a long-time supporter of the American Heart Association, the Redbud Garden Club in Pensacola, the Sunset Park Garden Club in Tampa, and was a charter member, along with her husband Harry, of the Disney Dining Experience.

Known throughout the region as an Honorary Food Ambassador for several local chef associations, she was well known for her enjoyment and appreciation of fine wines, gourmet foods and lovely couture.

Sis was an avid collector of exotic cookbooks, and loved to entertain with a flamboyant flair for dining that will be long remembered by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Harry, daughters Martha Bear of Tampa and Jeannie Bear of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Carolyn Lipson-Walker of Bloomington, Indiana; son Harry III of Arlington, Massachusetts; honorary daughter Josephine Forde, caregivers Debbie Tucker and Brenda Robinson, canine companion Hope, and many friends.

Services will be private, and the family requests that any donations be made to a charity of choice.

Margaret H. Burnside

Margaret H. Burnside, 76, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May18, 2005, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Chandler and the Rev. Jonathan Lambert officiating and Lawrence Brown- Service Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from 6 -8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Lawrence Funeral Hone.

Survivors include son, Jack (Debra) Burnside; and a daughter, Kay Burnside; granddaughters, Rachel (Keith) Colley, April (Chris) Norton and Dawn Burnside; great-grandchildren, Bethany Brooks McClendon, Grace Ann Colley, Margaret Claire Colley, William Grant Norton; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of long time friends.

Mrs. Burnside was preceded in death by her husband, Jack D. Burnside Sr.

Active pallbearers will be Keith Colley, Chris Norton, Hugh Brothers, Bryan Johnson, Scott Hadaway and Troy Stokes Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Powers, Tony Powers and Jim Hadaway.

She was a member of Westwood Church of God.

Fred Wells Holladay, Jr

Fred Wells Holladay, Jr., a lifetime cattleman and resident of Lowndes

County, AL, died Tuesday morning at the age of 67.

He is survived by his wife Judith Hurt Holladay; sister Barbara Jean

Holladay Wofford of Birmingham; brother Ronald Bell Holladay and wife Mitzi

Lane Holladay of Trickem; sons Fred Wells Holladay, III and David Julian

Holladay; daughter-in-law, Tracy Wulff Holladay; and grandsons Fred Wells

Holladay, IV, John Kurt Holladay and James Hurt Holladay, all of Birmingham.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2005, at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL, with Rev. M.R. Bradley and Rev. Elwood Sims

officiating, and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Active pallbearers will be Lamar Casey, James Coker, David Garrett, Sherrill Gothard, Steve Logan, Anthony Owens, Howard Powell and Allen Spivey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benton Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class and Dwight Casey, Henry Long, Jr., Allen Page, Thomas Pickens and John Shana.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Benton Baptist Church, Wiregrass Hospice, and the American Cancer Society.

Willia Mae Moore Fountaine

Willia Mae Moore Fountaine (affectionately known as “Miss Pie” and “Dear”) passed on Saturday, May 14, 2005, at a local Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3240 Alabama Highway 22, Selma, AL with the Rev. C A. Lett officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with J. H. Williams Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Fountaine was born in Dallas County, Alabama, November 21, 1914. She was reared by her uncles William and James Moore in Selma, Alabama.

She graduated with Honors from Knox Academy and later received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Alabama State University – Montgomery, AL.

She joined Green Street Baptist church at an early age. She was a faithful member for a number of years and very active in the Missionary Society.

She was married to the late James Lee and they were the proud parents of Dorothy “Dot” Burke and Martha Jean Williams, all preceded her in death.

Later years she married to Herman L. Fountaine who also preceded her in death.

“Miss Pie” was a devoted Elementary School teacher in Dallas County and the Selma City School System. Many years after retirement from her beloved “Clark Elementary School”, former students remembered her because of her soft voice and smile. They all called her Mrs. Fountaine

or “Mrs. Pie”.

She was very active in the Selma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The Entre Nous Club and her favorite friends of the “Thrifty Pals” Savings Club (that originated out of Green Street Baptist Church).

She leaves to mourn her memory; cousins Mildred Kayton & family, Sarah C Craig; two sons-in-law, Leonard L. Burke, Sr. and Fred D. Williams, III; six grandchildren; seven great-grands.

William Joseph Young, MD

William Joseph Young, MD, 75, of Marion, AL, died Monday, May 16, 2005, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Linda C. Young of New Port Richey, Fla.; two sons, William Brent Young of New Port Richey, Fla., and Bart B. Young of Marion. AL; one daughter, Tara Leigh Gould of Miami, Fla.; a special friend and companion, Rebecca C. Hubbard and her two children, Slade Hubbard and Ashley Hubbard all of Lawley.

Funeral services in Port Richey, Fla., will be held Saturday, May 21, 2005, at North Meadowlawn Funeral Home in Port Richey, Fla. Interment will follow at Slyvam Abbey in Safe Harbor, Fla.
