No one ever expected a No. 7 seed to stand toe-to-toe with a No. 2 seed.

No one except for the Lady Eagles of Jefferson Christian Academy who came within an eyelash of sending Meadowview Christian to the Consolation round in the first round of the AISA state tournament on Friday morning.

The Lady Trojans cruised out to an early 1-0 lead when Haley McIntyre and Kasey Burton reached base.

McIntyre was put out at home, but thanks to an error, Burton came in unscathed to push Meadowview up 1-0.

The Lady Eagles answered with a run of their own in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.

That’s the way it remained until Jefferson Christian tracked on two more runs in the top of the fifth.

Brandi Jefferson and Jill Monosky both recorded runs. Monosky singled scoring Jefferson and then was scored by Becca Gallant, pushing the lead to 3-1.

Meadowview however, used a late inning rally to tie and then win the game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Haley McIntyre leads off with a single down the third baseline. Burton follows with a blast to left that has the fielder back-peddling to get to it.

This allows McIntyre to score and cut the lead to a run.

Burton works her way around the base path en route to scoring the tieing run from third.

Elyse McIntyre draws a walk and then a steal and then moved to third on a passed ball.

Micah Lolley comes to the plate with one out and rips a sacrifice fly into deep right field. McIntyre hesitates at third, but an errant throw from the right fielder to the catcher allows her to cross home plate to secure the Lady Trojan victory.

Meadowview advanced to play Patrician in the second round of the AISA tournament.
