In Thursday’s game, Dallas County and Marbury remained deadlocked at 0-0 through the first three innings.

From the fourth through the sixth innings, the Lady Hornets were able to manufacture runs and keep the Marbury Lady Bulldogs on a short leash.

But they answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

But Weatherford stuck with his pitcher, Jessica Melton. Melton finished the day with three strikeouts over seven innings of work and withstood the small rally and retired the next batters to secure the victory.

Offensively for the Lady Hornets, Rachel Coley finished the day with a pair of runs and a pair of base hits.

Melton also finished the day with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI’s. Cherie Lane finished the day 1-3 with an RBI.

Dallas County currently sits in the No. 3 hole in the area standings, behind Bibb County and Jemison.

Unlike baseball, the Lady Hornets still have a shot at making the state tournament.
