Two Selma Police officers received minor injuries while fighting with a suspected drug dealer Saturday night.

According to reports, an officer saw a suspected drug deal in progress, involving two juvenile girls, in front of Johnny’s Package Store on Highway 80.

The officer attempted to hold the three suspects, while waiting for backup to arrive.

Angelo Detrell Edwards, a 22-year-old Selma man, was arrested in the incident.

According to Lt. David Evans, the SPD Public Information officer, after another officer responded to the scene, the suspect struck one of them while he was being searched.

“He strikes one officer, they grab him, he breaks free,” Evans said.

Evans said both officers were struck.

“It ended up taking three officers to put handcuffs on him,” Evans said. “They used force.”

Evans declined to name the officers.

The suspect, a Jones Trailer Park resident, was treated for minor lacerations on his head at Vaughan Regional Medical Center before he was transported to the Dallas County Jail.

Edwards is charged with failure to obey, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and two counts of second-degree assault, a felony charge.

A $21,500 bond was assigned in the case.

A 17-year-old and a 15-year-old were taken into custody as well, Evans said. They were suspected to be buyers in the interrupted drug transaction.

Evans said more charges might be filed.

“They (officers) recovered some suspected drugs,” he said.
