A Selma teen involved in the kidnapping of two young boys was given a $250,000 bond at his hearing on Friday.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said Freddie DeWayne McCampbell, 17, received the high bond because “apparently he was the instigator of the kidnapping.”

Jackson said McCampbell is being charged as an adult.

Two other suspects involved in the case, 20-year-old Fredrick Murphy and 19-year-old Jamal Henry Kinnard, both of Alberta, each received a $25,000 bond.

The three suspects are accused of snatching an eight-year-old boy and his five-year-old friend from the basketball court of Cahaba Park West trailer park on April 20 and taking them to Bloch Park.

The boys were forced to remove their pants, socks and shoes and wade into a pond at the park.

Lt. David Evans, Selma Police spokesperson, said a short time later the boys were forced back into suspects’ vehicle.

Officers spotted the vehicle a short time later and arrested the suspects.

McCampbell, Kinnard and Murphy have each been charged with two counts of kidnapping.

Police believe the kidnapping was likely gang related.

Evans said the suspects were angry with the 15-year-old brother of the 8-year-old victim.

“I’m hoping this will send a message that we will not tolerate kidnapping in Dallas County,” Jackson said.
