With days running out in the season, having 16 losses is never a good situation to be in. Unless it’s a team like the Morgan Academy Lady Senators.

The Lady Sens have a handful of ‘W’s’ but a majority of those come in the form of region games. Most recently, they notched a pair of wins against a very battle weary Fort Dale Lady Eagles squad.

“Everybody pretty much got a hit on Tuesday,” said Rick Blevins, coach of Lady Sens softball. “I got to play a lot of folks that I normally don’t get to play.”

Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Senators defeated their opponents from Butler County 11-0 in the first game and then 14-1 in the second.

In both games of the twin bill, Morgan pitchers flirted with no hitters. In game one, Laura Whitney Bennett carried a perfect game into the top of the fifth, but a lead off single from the Lady Eagles ended it.

In game two, Anna Larkin Oaks carried a no-no into the third inning before giving up a double.

“Our pitchers aren’t overpowering,” said Blevins.

“Laura Whitney has been pitching for me for four years, if she’s on and our defense is on, then we usually do a really good job. Anna Larkin isn’t an overpowering pitcher either, but she does throw a lot of strikes.”

Cate Gilmer, Courtney Hicks, Cursey Oaks, Elisabeth Waters and Kayla Pegues led the Lady Senators offensively through the first and second games against the Lady Eagles.

Right now, the Lady Sens are set to play host to Monroe Academy, on Thursday and then will look to their rematch with Hooper Christian Academy next week.
