According to Dallas County Sherif Harris Huffman, Senior was playing basketball at 1335 County Road 115, when he was approached by Simmons.

Huffman said Simmons and Senior knew each other.

The two got into an argument.

“The suspect pulled a pistol from his pocket and tried to hit Mr. Senior,” Huffman said.

Huffman said Senior was running away from Simmons when he was shot in the left leg from behind.

A Rossi .38 handgun was most likely used in the shooting, Huffman said.

Senior was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

The Times-Journal was unable to contact Senior as of presstime.

Soon after the shooting, a warrant was issued for Simmons, who turned himself in.

Huffman said Simmons, of 312 County Road 121, Orrville, was charged with assault in the first-degree.

He’s being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
