Lady Saints lose

The Selma Lady Saints’ four-run rally in the sixth wasn’t enough to overcome the Carver Wolverines

as the Ladies fell to a 10 – 9 loss to remain winless.

“We made too many mental mistakes today,” said assistant coach Fred Scott, “and we couldn’t overcome them.”

After giving up a run in the 1st inning, Selma came back to put three runs on the scoreboard by putting the first three batters on base with a triple and two walks. Carver added five runs of their own in their half of the second to go up 6 – 3.

Selma pitcher, Jessica Jones struck out five of the next ten batters she faced.

The score changed in the bottom of the 5th when the Lady Saints sent two runs across the plate on a base on balls, a triple, and a ground out to make the score 6 – 5.

The Lady Wolverines batted around in the 6th as they scored four more runs on just two hits. Selma didn’t throw the towel in as they added four runs of their own in their half of the 6th.

The first three batter reach base on a walk, a single, and scored two runs on a double steal and an error.

Then with one out catcher Fareka Lawler hit a two-run inside the park homerun to the left field corner to bring the Lady Saints to within one, 10 – 9.

The rally ended there and they could only get one runner on base in the 7th. Final score: 10 – 9.

The Lady Saints were led by Lawler who also had a triple to go with her homerun and drove in three runs. Sukoji Knight had two singles.

Jasmine Yates contributed a triple.

Carver’s Heather Kuczmarski and Taketia Roberts belted three hits each. Selma will travel to Montgomery on Monday to play the Lady Wolverines again.
