Not that Morgan Academy needed any help Tuesday afternoon at Meadowview, but the home-standing Trojans were in a giving mood.

Of Morgan’s 27 base runners, 13 reached base without the benefit of a hit.

The Morgan offense took advantage and outslugged Meadowview, 18-3.

“We’ve been doing that all year,” Meadowview coach Rick Jackson said. “We’ve just been in one of those funks.

Ever since we blew a 7-1 lead to Southern, we’ve been in a funk.

We just need some good things to happen.”

Even when things went Meadowview’s way Tuesday, something went wrong.

Already trailing 5-0 in the second, the Trojans rallied for three runs as Ryan Stephens walked, Ryan King singled and Blake Smith reached on an error.

Tyler Wendel followed with a single as did Dustin Lee.

But when a pickoff attempt on Lee, went wild, Wendel tried to scored from second but Reid Tolar gunned him down at the plate.

Meadowview had cut the lead to 5-3, but it was downhill from there.

Morgan added two each in the third and fourth and nine in the fifth to provide the final score.

Tolar had a triple and two runs scored for Morgan.

Brad Averitt added a double, a single and two runs scored.

Reid Buster scored four times on two singles and a double. Ben Callaway singled twice and scored three times. Eric Pilcher doubled and scored and Josh McAteer scored three times for the Senators. Zach Hughes picked up the win on the mound.

Morgan plays at Monroe in region action on Friday.

“That’s going to be a big game,” coach Robert Andress said.
