Oscar Barker

Oscar Barker, 65, of Selma, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include four brothers, Joseph (Betty) Barker, Jackie (Mary) Baker, James (Annie Mae) Walker all of Selma and Ephrom Barker Jr. of Compton, Calif.; one sister, Katie (Will) McCullough of Selma; devoted loving nephew, Frederick Walker; and devoted, loving special friend, Mildred Shaw.

Active pallbearers are nephews and friends.

Special thanks to the staff of Mid South Home Health Agency, Deacon Ernest Carter, Deidre Snipes and Grace Powell for outstanding care during the illness and passing of our loved one.

Ethel Mae Hill

Ethel Mae Hill, 95, of Selma, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Brien Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Joann Sharpe officiating.

Burial will follow in Little Star Cemetery in Burnsville, with Earnest Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., in Birmingham directing.

Local arrangements will be handled by Miller Funeral Home in Selma.

The body will lie in state on Friday at Miller Funeral Home beginning at 12 noon.

Survivors include Alfred Stanley (Phillis) Hill of Detroit, Mich., and Larry Hill of Ft. Foote, Md.; four daughters, Voncile (Theodore) Sherrer of Selma, Odega (Leonard) Sewell of Detroit, Mich., Ovetta (James) Williams of Bessemer and Elizabeth Hill of Jones; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; a special granddaughter, Lucretia (Frank) Smith; and a special god-son, Dainel Sims.

Flora Lucky Rawls

Flora Lucky Rawls, 64, of Marion, died Friday, March 25, 2005, at her home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Marion Baptist Academy in Marion, with the Rev. David Gay officiating.

Burial will follow in the Heard Cemetery with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

John Russell Jr.

John Russell Jr., 56, of Marion, was found Saturday, March 26, 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Marion Baptist Academy in Marion. Burial will follow in Green Leaf Cemetery in Marion with Lee and Rollins & Funeral Home directing.

Charles Hardy Sr.

Charles Hardy Sr., 76, of Cleveland, Ohio died Friday, March 25, 2005, at a Cleveland, Ohio hospital.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Lucas Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Hardy lived in Cleveland for the last 40 years, he was formerly of Tyler, AL. He left Alabama in 1965.

Survivors include his three daughters, Donna Hardy Thomas, Harriett Hardy and Frances Hardy Melton all of Cleveland, Ohio; four brothers, Willie Hardy of Brooklyn, N.Y., Joe Hardy of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Dan Hardy of Tyler and Theodore Tarver of Selma; one sister, Relice Marshall of Lowndes County; nine grandchildren; six sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eddie M. Hardy, two sons, Charles Jr. and Bill Hardy, parents, Will and Emily Hardy, four brothers, Edward, Alvin, Julius and Gus Hardy Sr.. three sisters, Bertha Timmons, Bessie M. Tarver and Annie Louise Hardy,.

Laura A. Thomas

Laura A. Thomas age 60, (resident of Selma, AL) passed March 30, 2005 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 12:00 noon at Second Baptist Church, located 2809 Hardie Ave. in Selma, AL, with the Rev. Darryl Moore, officiating.

Interment will be in the Lincoln Cemetery, Selma, Alabama.

The Remains will be placed in the church Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. for viewing until funeral hour.

Walter English

Walter English, 74, of Selma, died March 24, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services are schedule for April 2, 2005 at 1:00 at Mt. Zion Baptist church officiated by Rev. Ruben English. Burial will follow at Emerson Cemetery directed by Lewis Bothers Funeral Home.

Mr. English is survived by his spouse, Corine Pritchett English, sons; Walter (Shelley) English, Kenneth English, Glenn ( Darlene) English of Detroit, Michigan and Paul (Kim) English of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughters, Jahuita (Johnny) Johnson, Patricia (Roger) Hall, Vickie (Jerry) Wilson of Selma,

Alabama and Nancy English of Detroit, Michigan; sisters, Hattie M Perkins, Queen

Bennett of Selma, Alabama, Rebecca (Billy) Baker, Corine (Booker) Rodgers of Detroit, Michigan. 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, and two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and relatives.

Walter English was preceded in death by a son, Clinton English, parents, George and Corrine English, four brothers, George Jr., Arthur, Alfred Charles, and David English.

Serving as pallbearers will be Min. Damon Rodgers, Tyrone Sheppard, Daniel Bennet, Johnny Bennet, Dwight Pritchett and Warnie Simpson.

Honorary pallbearers are Walter English, Kenneth English, Glenn English, Paul English, Roger Hall, Jerry Wilson, Johnny Johnson and General English.

Mattie Eady

Mattie Eady, formerly of Perryville, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lee & Rollins Funeral Home.

Louie Samuel Plummer

Louie Samuel Plummer, age 84, died Thursday March 31, 2005, at a Marion nursing home.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday April 4, 2005, at the Orrville City Cemetery directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Mr Plummer is survived by his brother, Charles Plummer of Orrville, sister, Lois Buchanan of Anniston, and several nieces and nephews.

Annie Ruth Brown

Annie Ruth Brown, 40, of Selma, died Monday, March 28, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, 1005, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Gregory C. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Mae Brown; two sons, Eugene Brown and Stanley Lamann Brown; three daughters, Lakelia Ann Brown, Renegia Ann Brown and Alyian Brown; three brothers, Dennis Brown, Henry Louis Brown and Jessie James Safford; five sisters, Brenda Dianne Brown, Debra Ann Blevins, Hennrietta Brown, Mary Ann Turner and Barbara Sanders; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; seven nephews; 12 nieces; other relatives, Bessie Garner, William Garner, Minnie Johnson, Edward Johnson, Annie Rose Garner and Bae Ruth Garner.

Active pallbearers are brothers and friends of the family.

J.C. Harmon, 63, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Demopolis, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, the Chapel of Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis, with Min. Doris Perkins officiating, Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Demopolis, with Larkin & Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Louise Mays

Louise Mays, 63, of Forkland, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Forkland, with the Rev. William Branch officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Larkin & Scott Funeral Home directing.
