Selma is known for its rich history and hospitality. The city has numerous celebrations throughout the year, which are organized to honor events that have been part of Alabama and even American history.

Coming in April, Selma will be bringing more history to its city.

Unlike many of our other events, this one isn’t based on history made here in Selma, but it is intertwined with the stories of those who at one time called Selma home.

This history was made with the ultimate sacrifices our soldiers made in the jungles of Asia.

The Moving Vietnam Wall will be in Selma and it expects to bring with it lots of memories, tears and tourists. For those who have lost family members in what Vietnam, it will be an emotional tribute. The hearts of not only those who have lost loved ones but also those who are patriotic will be touched by viewing the replica of the original wall, which resides in the nation’s capital.

The wall contains names of those who lost their lives in the war and those names of soldiers who remain missing in action.

All Selmians should show their respect by taking time out of their schedules to spend viewing and reading the names on the wall. It will be a time for remembrance and for many a time for learning. Show your support by coming out to see the wall and thank those who have made it possible.

Selma would not have the honor of hosting the wall if were not for the efforts of Jim Truax, Kathi Needham and too many others to be named along with many organizations such as: Rotary Club, Alpha Kappa Alpha, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Alpha Civitan Club, the American Legion, the Bridge Tenders House, Chesterfield, the Civitan Club, the Exchange Club, the Fraternal Order of the Police, the Kiwanis Club, Leadership Selma, Links, the Lions Club, Master Gardeners, Marion Military Institute (MMI), the Rotary Club, the Rotaract Club, the Selma Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department, Twelve High, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) who have all volunteered to assist in this effort.

This will be an exciting and emotional time for this community. Selma needs to share with its residents, along with surrounding communities, the aura that accompanies this great monument, while at the same time showcasing its hospitality.
