Central Christian Academy’s Warriors set visiting Shelby down in order to start the game Monday afternoon at Bloch Park.

Unfortunately for the home team, that was about the only thing that went CCA’s way as the Raiders exploited the CCA defense for 16 runs on their way to a 16-4 win.

After a perfect first inning, a parade of errors and miscues behind him ruined CCA pitcher Andrew Harrison’s chance for a strong outing.

Harrison gave up a solid double to Kevin Lucky and a single to Jason Stokes but might have gotten out of the jam relatively unscathed if the defense had come through behind him.

Instead, the Raiders sent 13 batters to the plate in the second and scored nine runs to put the game out of reach.

More bad luck followed in the third when the Raiders batted around again and plated seven more runs.

With a 16-0 lead, the Raiders slowed things down.

They subbed liberally and stopped their runners from taking extra bases.

To their credit, CCA continued to battle.

Tee Woods came in and pitched two innings of scoreless ball and the offense got things going as well.

Phillip Hemphill slapped a one-out single to start things off and Eric Curtis followed with a one-bagger. Harrison’s single loaded the bases for Ben Fleming who knocked in a run with a single.

Woods picked up a pair of RBIs with a single right field that cut the lead to 16-3.

Curtis accounted for the game’s final run as he walked, stole second and third.

Finally he got a good jump to the plate and stole home as Harrison blocked the way with a suicide squeeze bunt attempt.

The bunt rolled foul, but Curtis touched the plate before the bat hit the ball.

In softball action, CCA fell 15-1 to Shelby at home.

CCA is scheduled to be on the road Tuesday afternoon at Marion Military Institute.
