A Detroit fugitive was arrested in Selma yesterday morning after FBI agents and local police surrounded his grandmother’s house on Lavender Street.

Eric Renard Carter, 27, was taken into custody shortly after 8:30 a.m. Thursday for being a fugitive from justice.

Carter had outstanding warrants against him issued through the Wayne County (Detroit) Michigan District Court dating back to August of 2003, according to Selma Police Public Information Officer Lt. David Evans.

Evans said the warrants accuse Carter of assault with intent to commit murder and felony firearm violations.

“Michigan law enforcement learned that Carter had fled the state,” Evans said. “They asked for assistance from the FBI in locating Carter and an investigation led to the Selma arrest.”

Evans said officers received credible information Thursday that the suspect was at his grandmother’s house at 19 Lavender St.

Agents and police officers surrounded the residence around 7:30 a.m. and attempted to make contact with those inside.

After getting no response, officers began the process of obtaining a search warrant.

“As. Lt. Susan Smith was driving up the scene with a search warrant, Carter decided to come out of the house and turn himself in to police custody.”

Carter was taken to the Dallas County Jail pending his extradition back to Michigan.

Carter was listed on the Detroit Police Department’s Most Wanted list for the shooting of 19-year-old male in 2003.

Evans said he did not know the details of the case, but the Detroit Police website considered Carter as an “armed and dangerous” suspect.
