A Selma nurse was charged with 11 counts of theft on Monday for allegedly taking money from her co-workers at Warren Manor Nursing Home.

Cynthia Blake, 39, a licensed practical nurse at Warren Manor, is accused of taking an undisclosed amount of money from her co-workers after creating a Christmas social savings club.

A social savings club is when someone collects money from a large group, places the funds into a bank savings account, and then redistributes the money on a set date.

“The suspect collected money all year from her co-workers saving up for Christmas presents,” said Lt. David Evans, public information officer. “When the employees wanted to get their money out of the account, it was never returned to them.”

Blake was charged with seven counts of second-degree theft, a Class C felony for stolen property exceeding $250, and four counts of third-degree theft, a misdemeanor charge for stolen property not exceeding $500.

Evans said he believes this was not the first time Blake has been accused of theft in connection to this case.

“This has been an ongoing case since before Christmas,” Evans said. “Lots of warrants have been signed and more charges could be pending.”

Evans said investigators have to shift through a “long paper trail” in attempts to connect their suspect to the crime.

Blake was taken to the Dallas County Jail, where she was later released on bond.
