As surely as spring is quickly approaching, it’s time for The Selma Times-Journal’s annual rite of late winter.

That’s right.

Horizons is back in today’s issue for 2005.

Each year, according to The Times Journal publisher Jesse Lindsey, we go out to find the “regular” people who make the area great and tell their stories.

“The only problem with working in the Black Belt,” Lindsey said, “is finding ‘regular’ people. It seems like just about everyone we run in to here is extraordinary.”

Lindsey said the area is filled with incredible people, rich in history, heritage and stories to tell.

The Horizons edition, he said, lets people know just how special it is to be in this area.

“We’re really lucky to be able to bring these stories to our readers,” Lindsey said.

This year’s Horizons edition is filled with information and stories about our readers, the industries in the area, their governments and just some of the good things happening in the area, Lindsey said.

“It’s our showcase edition,” he said. “It gives us, as a newspaper, a chance to put our best foot forward and show our readers how much we care.”

It’s the hope of everyone at the Times-Journal, Lindsey said, that the readers will be just as impressed with their area as the staff of the newspaper is.

“It really amazes us each year how special this part of the state, and country is,” he said. “Hopefully, our readers will know just how lucky we are, and they are, to live in this area.”
