Selma residents Bruce McQuire and Deresa Taylor were arrested Thursday night in connection to the high-speed police chase that ended on Highway 80 East near Roosevelt Avenue.
A third woman was also taken to police headquarters for questioning, but no charges have been filed at this time.
McQuire, 41, was charged with failure to obey a police officer, resisting arrest and driving under the influence.
Taylor, 39, was charged with failure to obey and giving a false name to police.
The car chase began shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday after Selma Police Officer H. Tubbs witnessed a woman being thrown out of a vehicle at the corner of Furniss Avenue and Broad Street.
Lt. David Evans, public information officer, said officers chased the vehicle through parts of Selma’s historic district, down Broad Street and over the Edmund Pettus Bridge.
The suspects in the chase eventually pulled over and abandoned the car, Evans said.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and State Troopers assisted in the search and eventual arrests of the suspects.
Evans said Selma Police officer B.D. Wright’s nose was broken during a foot pursuit.
Evans said investigators are still trying to determine what led to the police chase and why the unidentified woman was thrown from the car.
