MAPLESVILLE – Maplesville ran into a red hot Dallas County offense Friday night.
The Red Devils trailed by as much as 32 in the game and eventually fell to the Hornets, 80-52.
DCHS started the night jumping ahead 12-0 in the first 2:13 of the ball game.
Maplesville’s Nick Andrews finally answered the Hornets when he hit a layup with 5:32 left to go in the first quarter.
Maplesville then made it 26-12 with 1:18 left in the first when Jeremy White hit a 3-pointer and a mid-range jumper on consecutive trips down the floor.
The Hornets ended the quarter with a 28-12 advantage.
After holding DCHS down to begin the second frame, the Red Devils finally found some firepower of their own.
The team ended the first half on an 11-3 tear ignited by an outside shot from White.
But the Hornets still held a 41-28 lead after the first horn sounded.
A Rafael Miller layup to begin the third ignited a 10-2 spurt that made the score 51-30 with 5:36 on the clock.
Andrews completed a three-point play with 2:50 left in the third to pull the Red Devils within 17 points, 58-41.
But that was all the Hornets would allow from their opponents in the quarter.
DCHS scored the last 10 points, including a Michael Johnson dunk and 3-pointer on successive possessions, to take a 68-41 lead into the fourth.
A long jumper from Maplesville’s Tony Talley made the score 74-44 with 5:44 left in the game.
But the Red Devils could muster little else after that point.
Johnson led the Hornets with a game-high 35. Miller contributed 11, while Artelius Dixon scored eight. White led Maplesville with 16 points, followed by Andrews with 15.
