The Southside High School Lady Panthers held off a tough Calhoun team Saturday night, 55-54, to earn their eighth win of the season.
The Lady Panthers (8-8, 3-2 in the area) led by as much as eight points late in the game. But a Jasmine McCall basket with 3:40 remaining brought the Lady Tigers back to within 50-44.
The Lady Panthers maintained their lead at 55-50, but saw it shaved to three by a Tiffany Miller lay-up with 8.1 seconds to go. The Lady Tigers then picked off the inbound pass, but McCall could only manage a two-point basket at the buzzer, and Southside held on to the slim one-point victory.
“We played a balanced game, offensively and defensively,” Southside coach Matthews Williams said. “We got a little sloppy with the ball, but our bench stepped up. It was a good team effort.”
Tiffany Anderson scored 15 points and dished out five assists to pace Southside. Kimberly Broadnax tossed in 13 points, while Kendra Marzette chipped in 12.
