Twenty-six Morgan Academy 7th graders qualified to participate in Duke University’s Talent Identification Program (TIP) for the 2004-2005 school year.
The TIP identifies academically talented 7th graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school and invites these students to complete either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT Assessment college entrance exam.
Duke TIP then provides them with information concerning their academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities.
“We are always proud of our representation, but this year the 7th graders have outdone themselves by having over 50% participation in the TIP program,” said Sheryl Schroeder, Morgan Academy School Counselor.
To qualify, a student must attend public, private, or home school within Duke Tip’s 16-state region, be in the 7th grade during the current school year, and score in the 95th percentile or higher on their standardized achievement, aptitude, or mental ability test in an approved subtest category.
Will Anderson, Alena Bearden, Taylor Bone, Heath Brantley, Hunter Butts, Emily Chandler, Garrett Coffee, James Dailey, Parker Dewitt, Lanny Harrison, Emma Huelskoetter, Katie Jackson, Allen Kish, Tyler Lawrence, Kristen Malone, Elizabeth Manderson, Landon Nichols, Brittany Pearson, Elaine Song, Lauren Swindle, Laura Talton, Heather Thomas, Andrew Traux, Rohith Vadlamudi, Johnny Watts, and Caitlin Welch met these qualifications and have already taken, or are scheduled to take the ACT Assessment college entrance exam.
“Last year we had 3 students who received state recognition for their achievements (in the Duke TIP), but we will not know until April if we have students who will receive state recognition for this year,” said Schroeder.
