On Saturday, Feb. 12, the Alabama Cooperative Extension will host Child Care Provider Training in Clanton.

The training, which will be conducted by four Regional Extension Agents, will offer workshops that cover such topics as child development, food safety, financial management, and human nutrition and health.

“We had a request for training by a day care provider in Clanton, so Gay West, the Chilton County Extension Coordinator, decided to make it a regional effort,” said Sallie Lide-Hooker, Regional Extension Agent and one of the workshop presenters.

The training is open to parents, day-care providers, child-care managers, teachers, foster care parents, Kids and Kin, and Head Start faculty and directors in Autauga, Bibb, Butler, Chilton, Dallas, Lowndes, Perry, Shelby, and Wilcox counties.

In addition to opportunities to engage in hands-on activities and gain creative new ideas for the classroom, participants who attend the training will receive a certificate for four contact hours.

“We are trying to make positive names for active behaviors in children,” said Hooker. “Children are not bad, they are spirited. We need to change our perspective and behavior toward children.”

Activities such as making modeling clay, creating butterflies out of coffee filters, making finger puppets, and other fun arts and crafts ideas will be shared between each presentation.

The training will be held on Saturday Feb. 12 at the Alabama Power Company Conference Center in Clanton.

It will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. The $5 fee for attending will cover the cost of printing the materials and providing the refreshments and supplies. Feb. 4 is the closing date for registration.

“If there are any day-care providers who need programs, get into contact with the local extension office,” said Hooker. “We are available for training.”
