UNIONTOWN – When the shots are falling and everyone is playing according to the coach’s game plan, it doesn’t matter that half the team has a flu virus.

The R.C. Hatch High School Lady Bobcats used the first quarter to knock down 4-of-9 from outside the arc, then relied on their defense to create scoring opportunities to coast to an easy 74-50 win over the Livingston Lady Cougars on Friday night.

“Our entire team seems to be coming down with a virus,” Hatch coach Walter Abraham said. “But we told our girls to work hard, be consistent, minimize turnovers and play sound defense.”

The Lady Bobcats (20-1) did just that. They were able to get into their offensive sets and executed very well throughout the game.

Hatch closed out the first quarter ahead 18-12.

Livingston never got any closer. The Lady Bobcats expanded to a double-digit advantage early in the second quarter as their defense forced the Lady Cougars into turnovers. By half time, Hatch had raised its lead to 35-22.

In the second half, the Lady Bobcats got

into the shooting lane seemingly at will for easy baskets.

Alternating from zone to man-to-man defenses, R.C. Hatch was able to confuse the Lady Cougar offense.

“We knew we were facing a good R.C. Hatch team,” Livingston coach Robin Harrison said. “We wanted to use this game to get tuned for the area tournament. Hatch was the better team tonight.”

Lady Bobcats sophomore point guard Vinecia Dudley led all scorers with 20 points. Jamarica Cheese added 18. Ahjah Mitchell chipped in 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Sierra Miller contributed 13 points for the Lady Bobcats.
