Willie Pettway

Willie Pettway, 91, of Selma, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Lighthouse Nursing Home.

Services are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 17, at noon at the Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mallard Chapel and be directed by Miller Funeral Home.

Carolyn Ruth Manter Shafer

Carolyn Ruth Manter Shafer went to be with her Lord and Savior early Sunday morning, Jan. 16, at her residence. She was 65.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Reverends Herbert Whatley and Delbert Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park with Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at Southern Heritage Funeral Home this evening from 5-7 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Wiregrass Hospice, Inc., P.O, Drawer 2127, Dothan, Al., 36302. Mrs. Shafer was born May 5, 1939, in Dayton, Ky., the daughter of Fred William Manter and the late Dorothy Burns Manter.

She worked as a homemaker for most of her life. Mrs. Shafer supported her husband through 20 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. After Rev. Shafer retired from the Air Force, she supported him as a dedicated wife serving several Methodist churches in Alabama and Florida. She was a member of the Rocky Creek United Methodist Church near Ashford, Alabama. She was a member of the Lucy Hathaway Cornerstone Prayer Group.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Manter.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Richard J. Shafer, Dothan; father, Fred William Manter, Dothan; brother, Tom Manter, Pisgah Forest, N.C.; and two nieces, Heather and Holly Manter, Clearwater, Fla.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Lucy Hathaway Prayer Group.
