Mary Steele Herrington Carneal

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday Jan. 16, 2005, in Church Street United Methodist Church for Mary Steele Herrington Carneal, who died at her home in Auburn on Thursday, January 13. The Rev. George Sedberry will officiate.

The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Calhoun Parlor at the church.

Mrs. Carneal was born August 3, 1918 in Selma, which was her home until she and her husband, Otha Anderson Carneal Jr., moved to Auburn during the previous year.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Kay Carneal Phillips (Lawrence) of Auburn, and a granddaughter, Currie Johnson Bucher (Matt) of Austin, Texas.

She is also survived by two sisters, Josephine Herrington Pace and Betty Herrington Moore, both of Dothan; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Herbert Saunders of Montgomery; two nieces, Jan Pace Sheffield (Bill) of Dothan and Martee Moore Holt of Richardson, Texas; and three nephews: Dr. James Herrington Pace (Carol) of Elon, N.C., Michael Saunders (Vickie) of Montgomery and Stevan Otha Saunders of Birmingham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church Street United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Children’s Home or a charity of choice.

Ila Mae Wallace

Ila Mae Wallace, 94, of Randolph, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, in Bibb County.

She was born Tuesday, Nov. 29, 1910, in Bibb County, daughter of the late Charlie Adams and the late Rachel Smitherman.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Mr. Johnnie (Edna) Wallace, Clanton; Mr. Jamie (Patsy) Wallace, Camden; a brother, Mr. R. C. Adams, Randolph; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Friends will be received Jan. 16, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Clanton.

Services will be held at Randolph Baptist Church, Monday, Jan. 17, at 1:30 p.m.

Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, in Maplesville.
