Susie Ann Lewis

Susie Ann Lewis, 58, of Selma, died Saturday, January 9, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at New Sister Spring Baptist Church with Elder Paul Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her mother, Josie Mae Lewis; two sons, Cedric Lewis and Jamarcquis Lewis; five daughters, Patricia Irby, Evelyn Campbell, Renita Goings, Cawanda Lewis and Ramona Griffin; two brothers, Joseph Lewis Jr. and Robert Lewis; two sisters, Sarah Lewis Marshall and Belinda Lewis Wells; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sons-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.

Active pallbearers are OS & S Club.

Ms. Lewis was president of New Sister Spring Baptist Church’s Nurses Guild, Home interior decorator and Income tax preparer and many other talents.

Jesse L. Wright

Jesse L. Wright. 44, of Selma, died Monday, January 10, 2005, at a Mobile hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, at Southside High School with the Rev. Gary Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Big Zion AME Zion Churchyard Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. directing.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine S. Wright; mother, Ruby N. Wright; his daughter, Kimberly Denise; stepdaughters, Summer Smiley and Chutney Otey; three brothers, Abe (Mary Ann) Wright, McKensley (Emilyn) Wright and Mathews (Meleny) Wright; one sister, Betty Goodwin; mother-in-law, Morlie Smiley; seven nephews; six nieces; and great-nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Active pallbearers will be Alabama State Troopers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alabama State Troopers.

Patricia Diane Lewis

Patricia Diane Lewis, 48, of Selma, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Samuel Cleveland Jr. officiating and Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a special friend, Michael Smith; parents, Calvester Jemison and Irma Jean Stubbs; two daughters, Jamie Nicole Lewis and Latisha Nicole Irby (goddaughter); two brothers, LaCurtis Stubbs and Wendell Squire; three sisters, Miriam Griffin, Rosalyn Nelson and LaTangla Stubbs; two devoted aunts, Margaret Bryant and Dorothy Lamar; and god-grandchildren, Kelsey Cooper and Roderick Harrison.

Y. C. Coleman Sr., 76, of Selma, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Mical Perry and Elder Bryan Stark officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Coleman; four sons, Glen Coleman of Chicago, Ill., Richard Coleman of Baltimore, Md., Y.C. Coleman Jr. and Henry (Helen) Muwwekkil of Selma; five daughters, Mary (Wood) Marshall, Nancy (Terry) Jackson, Natalie (Anthony) Rutledge of Selma, Sherry (Elston) Turner of Greenville and Margaret (Cedrick) Rodgers of Montgomery; two sisters, Rosie Lilly of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Emmaline Steels of Selma; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sons-in-law; two daughters-in-law; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law Francie (Richard) Moody; three nephews; and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Eliza Coleman.

Arthur Smith Jr.

Arthur Smith Jr., 68, of Selma, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at his home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Helping Hand Bible Ministries with Elder Ralph Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife Lula Mae Smith; four sons, Alfred Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Arthur Smith III of Scottsboro, Robert (Cassandra) Smith and Jimmy Smith of Selma; three daughters, Catherine Smith, Bernice Smith and Ellen Johnson all of Selma; two brothers, Napoleon and Chatman Smith; two daughters, Catherine Ellis and Mary Dell Smith; seven grandchildren one daughter-in-law; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and special nephew, Sylvester Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Ellen Smith.

Active pallbearers are co-workers and close friends.

Emma Webster, 67, of Selma, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, Rickey and David Webster; three daughters, Shirley Eaton, Gloria Webster and Johnnie Mae Webster; two brothers, Jessie McCant and R.C. Webster; two sisters, Katrina Childers and Charity Baskin; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; three sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; five nephews; and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ernestine Webster.

Active pallbearers are Freddie Winfield, Arthur Jackson, Chris Ward, Homer Ward, Roy Simmons and Eddie Smitherman.

Catherine Jackson, 70, of Selma, died Monday, January 10, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, January 15, at West Trinity Baptist Church, 310 L.L. Anderson Ave., with Pastor Joseph Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Walker Mortuary directing.

Survivors include four sons, John (Lois) Jackson, Harvey Jackson of Selma, James Jackson of Birmingham and Bobby (Sheila) Jackson of Silverhill; three daughters, Jean Davison, Sandra Jackson Johnson of Selma and Theresa Marshall of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister Luvenia Davis of Selma; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Smith and Margaret Houston.

Family visitation Friday, at 6 p.m. Walker Mortuary.

John Curtis, of Selma, died Saturday, January 8, 2005.

Anderson Woods Jr., 57, of Selma, died Monday, January 10, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 17, at Cooper Christian Church with the Pastor Ernest Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Paula Woods; six sons, Anderson IV (Cheryl) of Selma, Forrest of West Palm Beach, Fla., Famous of Riveria Beach, Fla., Alpha of Orlando, Fla., Kuambe of Mobile, Desmond of Selma and Zachary Hopkins of Prattville; three daughters, Mattie Lee Scott of West Palm Beach, Fla., Yvonne Westerman (Luann) West Palm Beach, Fla., and Corinthia Hopkins of Prattville; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; one daughter-in-law; special nephew, Jarco Harrison.

He was preceded in death by parents, Anderson and Corrine Woods Sr., one brother, George Harris Sr. and two sisters, Emma Neely and Katie Cunningham.

Active pallbearers are nephews.

Betty W. Supple

Betty W. Supple, 78, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005.

Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Greenwood Chapel. Entombment will follow in Greenwood Mausoleum with Greenwood Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a sister, Sarah Powers; nephews, Scott Powers and wife, Mary Jane, Glenn Powers and wife, Marcia and Tim Powers and wife, Heidi; great-nephews and great-nieces, Jeff Powers, Jennifer Zila, J.R. Powers, Elizabeth Powers and Erin Powers.

Betty was born May 8, 1926, in Selma, Ala. She was a member of Overton Park United Methodist Church, Society of Military Widows, Air Force Sgt. Association Chapter 1055A and Overton Park Methodist Women.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Overton Park United Methodist Church, Salvation Army or charity of choice.

Lubertha Knight, of Hayneville, died Saturday, January 9, 2005.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hayneville Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Willie Pettway

Willie Pettway, 91, of Selma, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at a local nursing home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.

Annie Thomas Neal

Annie Thomas Neal, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died Friday, January 7, 2005.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at the Chapel of Bell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah #1 Church Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Mary Steele Herrington Carneal

Mary Steele Herrington Carneal, wife of Otha Carneal, died suddenly on Thursday, Jan.13 at their home in Auburn, which recently became their residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at Church Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Sedberry officiating.

The family will receive visitors at the church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
