Authors featured at library lunch

The popular “Lunch at the Library” series now turns the corner into a brand new year of programs. The combination is unbeatable – good food, good friends and good books.

Beginning with that wonderful March evening back in 1992, with Ferrol Sams and his book, Christmas Gift, this series attracts authors and listeners from around our state.

Beginning on February 9 and to celebrate Black History month, we will welcome Senator Hank Sanders, author of Death of a Fat Man

Senator Sanders, a practicing attorney in Selma, is serving his sixth term in the Senate. He graduated from Talladega College and Harvard Law School.

Free lance writer Greg Griffin writes of the Senator’s book,”In his novel, Hank shares the pain, suffering, and triumphs of struggles with obesity and imminent death.”

“It is important that people understand they can defeat their obesity, or at least bring it under control,” quotes the Senator

Senator Sanders is a grandfather, father, husband, attorney and state senator who writes a weekly column published in two daily newspapers, a number of weeklies and wide distribution in other arenas. He has published a collection of his columns entitled, Take A Walk In My Shoes: Sketches of A Struggle To Serve.

With a national and local focus on good health and well being, the Senator’s book offers a strong message to us all.

On March 17, we will welcome artist , Bob Moody with his book, Gifts of Grace Alabama Churches in Watercolor. Bob’s design work has been published in Contract Magazine and Design South Magazine. He has been featured in Birmingham Magazine for his work in revitalizing the Five Points area of Birmingham, in Southern Accents for his watercolours during a trip to Italy, and in American Artist as a featured watercolour artist.

His book will be a perfect companion to the upcoming Pilgrimage weekend , which begins Friday, March 18. Celebrating the history or our churches is a celebration of community. The beauty and detail of

Gifts of Grace will be an asset to any home.

And last and coming right before the Battle of Selma weekend, we welcome author , Jim Harrell, with his Civil War novel, Their Last Ten Miles.Jim is a Selma native and the son of a country doctor. His keen interest in the American Civil War is partically driver by the fact that his grandfather lost his right arm at the battle of Gettysburg. The story opens at the war’s beginning and ends with the Battle of Selma.
